I can't nap, except rarely.
It just leaves me fuzzy-headed.
Like I said, this system doesn't give much time between pre-plan and drive. And I need time to wake up fully before I drive.
So I either have to be given enough time to get ready to drive, or I need enough time to rest enough between loads - plus enough time to get fully awake.
I'll not drive this rig if I am not ready. Just won't happen.
I may end up unemployed, but better that than causing an accident.
Any company drivers getting midnight loads lately forcing you to drive all night?

Some can do this. I'm one of the ones that after a full nights sleep will not nap at all.
-
Same here. I can't take naps no matter how long I lay in bed.
I get it relatively easy running team though. When you don't know what you're doing next and you both just sleep on your normal schedule, someone will be good to drive. -
Don't ever look into entertainment if you can't hack driving at night. I really cannot believe this is even a valid thread. Wow is all I can say. Well i could say a few more things but they all fall under if you don't have anything nice to say........

Just let the Company Know this is becoming a Safety Issue. If there going to keep you on night" then give u heads up so you can regulate ur body to sleep in according with ur lds. But being up all day, then giving u lds to run all night makes for a sleepy driver,42 cents is not worth ur life. I tryed that i just let them know i dont have a battery box on my body.So as soon as u let them know this, and it is a Safety issue!!!!! they will change the way they dispatch you. I think i know what company u work for. I just want say

I'm one of the lucky ones, I can and do sleep anytime, anywhere, always been like that even before trucking. When I was trucking I made it a habit to grab a nap whenever I could, waiting on a load from dispatch? NAP! Waiting to get loaded? NAP! Waiting to unload? NAP! Many times we would be stuck at a papermill waiting hours to load, no problem for me, I've been resting while other drivers were on the dock bs-ing. Loaded, I'm ready to go, the bs-ers are crying they're tired and need to rest, seriously?? I've found that if I cant fall asleep just laying in the sleeper in the dark is relaxing and refreshing but safety first, if you cant hack being up all nite let dispatch know, no-one can force you to do anything, YOU are the captain of your "ship"!Sometimes I would tell dispatch I would get the trailer loaded, to keep the shipper happy, but afterward I was going to sleep and they need to reset the delivery appt. In the beginning of my trucking career, waaay back in '89, I preferred to drive nights, hence my handle allniter but as I aged, I couldnt see so good at night so now I only do it if absolutely necessary and if I was rested enough to do it safely.

It's something you have to work at. If you're just lying down in the bunk, you're resting - if you're up and foolin' around you're wasting energy. I picked up the trick in the military... 'round the clock operations mean you have to be ready to go... NOW! Ain't no whining to the top about it.
allniter Thanks this.
