Ok, While on the interstate last night my fuel light came on....not fuel light but idk what to call it, its a fuel pump with what looks like rain drops next to it, I assume it was something to do with my fuel filter or air on fuel system or something.......... so its starts running really rough, within a mile of that light coming on, im on the side of the road. I let it try to idle itself out, but its only getting worse and eventually within about 2O seconds its shut down. I look at my fuel filter and its kinda bubbling(the truck is off at this point) After changing the filter its acting like its wanting to start but its almost like its pulling air.........any ideas??? Also ive got the eaton autoshift and i went to turn ignition on and see if it would start and instead of showing the N for nuetral im just gettin a line like this -- so i cant start it up. I was towed to volvo dealer and they say its my XY shifter. Im starting to dislike autoshift, just two months ago i replaced the range solenoid because it stopped going any higher than 5th gear.
Volvo issues again....

Base on the manual, it is a "water-in-fuel symbol"
Below is copy from manual:
Draining Procedure
If the engine is started before draining is complete, the
process is interrupted.
1. Stop the vehicle.
2. Apply the parking brake.
3. Turn off the engine.
4. Place a container under the water separator.
5. Turn the ignition key counterclockwise to the "Radio, Accessories" position.
6. If the vehicle is equipped with a Basic Instrument Cluster, press the Water-In-Fuel Drain Switch.
7. If the vehicle is equipped with a Mid or High Level Instrument Cluster, select "Vehicle Setting"/"Drain Water in Fuel" in the Driver Information Display menu. Press Enter ( ) to request draining.
8. Wait until the water has stopped draining.
9. Empty the container in a place -
Got my truck back this afternoon. They replaced the XY splitter and the fuel problem was my passenger side tank was sucking air..... But my digital gauge said i had 17 gallons of fuel left?? Even if i had fuel in just the driver tank, why would it do that????

With most that draw from both tanks, drawing air into the system loses priming of the charge pump. A truck will run out on a steep side camber if the fuel level is too low
The old style, with a crossover line from one side to the other, put fuel back in 1 tank and drew it from the other, it's been since 2006 that I have driven Volvo and those were early 90s models. I wouldn't want a newer one, those drove me crazy in the several weeks I drove them. So much beeping for normal functioning.
The early 2 pedal Eaton Ultra-shift transmission is a good thing to avoid, IMO, from driving 1 for 15 months doing some off road and heavy. I have never been stuck so much driving a truck as with that thing.Last edited: Sep 11, 2012
