Just got a tire replaced on the trailer was right at 2/32.
Shop guy told me it was supposed to be 4/32.
Was getting it replaced anyway, but from what I'm reading in the Regs 393.75 (b) and (c).
4/32 On Front Axle
2/32 Everywhere else.
Or am I reading this wrong?

You are correct.CAXPT, Balakov100 and CondoCruiser Thank this.

agree with Autocar...
4/32 on steers, 2/32 on all others.Balakov100 Thanks this. -
Company's have their own policies as well. I remember a time at USX they were pulling 4/32 drives and trailers along with 6/32 steers
Balakov100 and CAXPT Thank this. -
Swift was Anal 2/32 or Drives were not getting changed.
With a different Company now though. But this was at (didn't want to Post) Petro in Joplin.I do like that one though been there twice for tires and in and out both times.CAXPT Thanks this. -
2/32nds is for anything OTHER than a steer. But, I wouldn't want to let it get that low. Not every part of the tire wears evenly and you will have terrible traction at that point.
CAXPT Thanks this. -
Schneider has the steers at 5/32

The question was about DOT limits, not company or your own preference.

Get you a tire regrover and cut the tread down another 8/32. Almost double the life of the tire.
Takes approx. 1/2 hour to regrove a tire. And no skill to do it.
