Nothing is going to change at Landstar for BCO's right now. The thousands of contractors leased on prior to Aug 1st '12 will continue to log loose leaf, laptop, or however they choose. Of those contractors, the ones that screw up and get dinged with inexcusable form and manner violations or not keeping logs current will be forced on e-logs or shown the door. Contractors after Aug 1st will all be on e-logs preventing them from screwing up the saftey rating that guys who have been there for years have worked hard establishing. At some point we all will likely be forced on e-logs then, it's either adapt or go away. In the here and now nothing really changes. And actually the way LS works on the inside they never allow solo BCO's to run anything time sensitive that obviously can't be done overnight like 800-900 miles - those loads get relayed if they don't have a team truck on them. LS knows what they are doing. You're just not going to see boatloads of freight from them as an outside carrier simply because they are hampered and unprepared for this way of doing things. It's business as usual.

LS insurance does not provide physical damage. I source mine from OOIDA, and my truck would most definitely not be covered with ANY other driver unless I add them to the policy.

Only an issue if the companies doing the leasing aren't smart about it and doing through their own company. Make the lease a 3rd party (doesn't matter if the carrier owns that company 100%) and IRS issues are solved. Spent some good money on legal fees figuring out the correct way of doing it. Decided too much risk for us and didn't like the way it would have to be done to protect us and not feel like I need to take a shower after signing a lease.

The problem is that they continue to express control with the leases.

There is no way they can avoid the problem when they become a forced dispatch. That is the key.

I am sure your legal counsel expressed this as well.

    Independent contractors are just that.

I am one. I own the truck. I work when I want. My payment is not to them or through them.

If I want a load and they only offer what they want me to take, I go home.

I never said that they did provide physical damage insurance. They do provide the public liability insurance, which is not driver or truck specific.

Not every Shipper/Receiver has legal parking or...Truck stop....Rest Area close by....

But that's why I still have paper logs....Sometimes "editing" is the only way to appear legal....

Sorry if this offends anyone here....But....Most of us live in the "Real World"...Not the "Fantasy World" of PATT....CRASH....Public Citizen.....The Teamsters....and Ray LaHood....

Ok....So say one is "under a load" and out of hours courtesy of a *ahem* "Efficient" Shipper....
"Line 1" will pass muster if you get pulled by a DOT on the way to safe parking?

I somehow doubt that would work....

Btw....Not all but some..Brokers and Receivers think we can perform "miracles" or that our rigs can sprout wings....

Like when I was told that 12 hours was "enough time to get from Denver to LA" by a broker who promised the customer after I picked-up the load and well after the freight agreement was signed, that the load would "be there" the following day.....
Needles to say....It didn't make the "JIT" that I never agreed to in the first place....
The customer was pissed and the broker threatened to withhold payment....

Yep...Some....Not all, have their heads so far up their anuses, you wonder how they walk without killing themselves...

    People Here this
I you remember the fuel cards out there are free
Then came the qualcomm and that was free and helpful
Then Came the Cell Phone free if you joined the devil club for a year
I don't know how many other scam's out there trying to give the truckers free stuff
Are you better off back before all the free stuff was introduced or are you better off Now

Have you noticed that the loaf of bread is up to $3.00 and the trucker man still peddling fright
for .85 CPM and all the freight he can steal

The more the Gov, the broker, the shippers, or even your own competition know about you
where to find you or how to get you to do what they want NOT what you want
    More Examples???
what is your MC # PH# Email# and before you know it toy have to give DNA samples
Before He/She Can Let you know if the load is even available

The chances are you will not make it

If the old rule says the market is based on supply and demand
Then why do you want to give more info about you your location how many trucks you have
in the area and worse of all have the doodoo man email you a ticket because your EBORRRRRRR
told him that your log does not match the computer on your truck
Even if you were proven innocent from the charge How long will it take you to Prove That you didn't do what
the EBBORR or what ever you call this computer.

Every body wants a piece of you it is up to you what you are willing to give up.
so you can get so called free coffee,?Free Showers? Free Email? Free Fuel Cards?
    Are they really FREE?????????
    For YOUR convenience????:biggrin_25520:
We Care a Bout you Even when I have never met you?:biggrin_2552:

    Are you kidding me:biggrin_25523:
