My wife and I went over a year (while running team) without a car while living in Phoenix AZ. We just rented a car for a few days while we were home. We found that this doesn't work so well in rural Missouri! Another downside, that we learned after the fact, is that we had to buy high risk (expensive) insurance because we were not insured for over a year.

My wife and I did the same. Only came home every 3-4 months and just rented a car for 3-4 days. By the time you paid for the rental and insurance it just wasn't worth it. Ended buying a junker for cheap and just paying the minimal insurance.

I sold my car. Rented a motel. Had a motorcycle parked at yard
Why pay rent and other things if your not home -
I'm thinking the "trade in for a junker" might be a good way to go. Don't know why I didn't think of that; as long as the payment is gone and still have a car. Snowwy, I thought the same: bike at the yard, but with Chicago winters...ehhh

what the guy below says....
my thoughts exactly, but you beat me to it..!!
ok, so now you have a bag full of laundry, maybe your briefcase, maybe your extra boots, or sneakers, maybe your grocery shopping and all this and more are going to be SAFELY transported on your bike..?
you do realized that motorcycles have weight limits don't you..??
or that rain, snow, ice are all too real an event ...???
maybe not where you live, but us others..???
doesn't make any sense at all NOT to have a personal vehicle at your beckon call, and have to be dependent on a rental, zipcar this, zapcar that, yada, yada, yada.....
what does one do when all the cars are rented out..??
i guess the "thumbly way to travel"...???
you know the old joke about a person (especially a trucker) walking along side the road..???
"hey there goes a JB Hunt driver on vacation".....!!!!STexan Thanks this. -
When you get ready to go home go to dating sites and find a woman with a car.
-
Is it wrong if I already thought about that...
-
I think an old Taurus, paid-off, should do the trick. Anything but the $350 car payment.

trade it for something cheap, you need a vehicle.
find a better paying job as soon as you can, $350 isn't obscene by any stretch.
