Hey Forum:
Here's one for your background: Are most tractor-trailers standard, automatic or 10-speed?
Thanks,

Standard.
Not sure the difference between a standard and a 10 speed?
Most fleets are 10 speeds.TheShadow Thanks this. -
The driving school I'm considering advertises they have standards, automatics and 10-speeds available. I think they mean ANY gear ratio number, 10, 11, 13...when they say standard as opposed to a 10-speed.

then they probably have eaton-fuller 5 with spit axle and automatics ... there is not just one type of automatic but the obvious - experienced correct me - is that a dana auto probably is not alot different from an eaton auto except that the dana probably has a power-shift window of about 50 rpm and the eaton will be on a cummins with a broader torque window ~ google Mack double under and post back .....TheShadow Thanks this.

Most company trucks today are 9 and 10 speed (little difference) the automatics probably make up less than 30% on the road today and I really don't see them growing in popularity beyond where they are today, any time soon. If given the exclusive choice, by all means train in 10 speeds. I want nothing to do with autos.
