    Gotcha man!
But Icee is correct, and here is why:
If you're doing things the way you're doin, there'll never be a truck light enough for the job.
I don't care if you'll end up with just a frame with an engine and some wheels and a little saddle behind a steering wheel, it'll still be to heavy for some jobs!

Y'all need to change the way you're thinking!
If you do local or regional work, then use lightweight day cab trucks, and benefit from the extra payload revenues. But if you do long haul and spend weeks and/or months in the truck, then the problem lyes with the rates and not with the weight of the truck cause it needs proper driver accommodations for life on the road!

Let's be reasonable here! We are discussing long haul trucks equipped with sleeper berths meant to accomodate driver's life on the road. Another gentleman mentioned that some drivers drive from Frankfurt Germany all the way to the border with China. Well, that's quite some long arse trip trough some strange places and, I'll bet you, they go on some roads and pathways that were laid down by Genghis Khan and Atilla the Hun on their way to conquer Europe.

Now, I don't know how long it takes to drive a loaded truck from Germany to China and back, but I'd just guess that, it'll probably take a month or better, considering how many borders they have to go trough and the kind of people, paperwork and governments they have to deall with.
The other thing to consider is the fact that there's no truck stops with facilities and driver amenities aether. These guys probably have to pack their owh groceries and cook their food themselves.
So, don't tell me that the current Euro truck sleeper cab is adequate for that kind of work.

Since the Global Economy is the way of the future, and the distances for freight transportation by truck increases and the drivers have to spend a greater amount of their life on the road, in the cab of their truck, it is only logical that an increase of the driver's dwelling space is a necessary thing to be considered by the lawmakers.
While everybody else with 9Am to 5PM job gets to sleep in a comfy bed every night, why are the long distance derivers denied the same privileges?

I think that trucks equipped with sleeper cabs, just like the one on the Scania Longline, it would be a reasonable compromise for the Germany-China trips and others like it.
I don't think that an extra 900lbs(410kg) to the tare weight and an extra 4'(122cm) in total truck&trailer combination length, would be impossible to accommodate.

    well, What say you?

The euro cabs nowadays ain't as bad as they look, beds are between 80-90 cm usually, yes even the Scania bunk comes across narrow in the pics but it's actually 90 cm, they usually have things like refrigerators as standard but also can be specced with microwaves and coffee machines etc. There is plenty of room to stand up, get dressed and move around, where they suffer is storage room, no big wardrobes here, the top bunk is the storage for bags etc so that makes them useless for double manning, they are good for single occupancy, I've driven a frieghtliner and I've been in a 379 Pete , by comparison the euro cab has far more room than these, even a mid roof 'highline' Scania I can stand fully upright , stretch my arms out and do a 360deg turn without hitting anything (good for getting clothes on after a feed of guinness) they have improved alot in recent years, manufacturers are getting clever and making the most of limited space, having said all that yes,we should have the option for bigger cabs , driver comfort and health should come first and for extremely long haul like Germany to china and back you need storage. They don't even have to be as big as a Longline but another 2 feet would do wonders, a bigger bed and possibly a wardrobe style storage behind the seats like an argosy, it would even be possible on some current 3 axle tractors.

that is nothing comparing how some drive but it is only decent video of road , worst danger come from people who dont know to drive and overheat brakes(i was in car twice on this hill when this happened first time with guy who is convinced that it is better for fuel economy and for car if he up shift it early and he is afraid of high revs ....there was 5 of us in car (vw passat b5.5) he was not going fast down but he was in high gear like 4 and he push brakes too much.....it happened at bottom of hill he turn in some track roadside ....

second time happened to friend of mine(prof driver) were 4of us in alfa he was going slow down in second gear but brakes were #### and at half way down they become hot.....
so dont save on safety , my golf have ap racing brakes fitted at 104500km now car have 252000km still with same brakes they still brake very good

so for me this is more dangerous than driving fast who knows ..., also people who are not careful i was once there behind bus and girl was going downhill and she did not look and almost crash in bus , she avoided crash but ended in ditch , i was helping to pull car out , she touch some rock with oilpan so it take some time to get her out.....

that is residential area but it is my job to deliver constructional material to places like this ....it was so steep( cant be shown on image as usually) but very steep clutch start to smell little bit in bottom gear since transmission is bit fast in this truck....and than i need to enter in yard which have very narrow gate just enough for it (165inch wheelbase 4x2 55degree wheel angle )

hi i was writing about germany to east transport

our truckers drive it , it can last everything from 1.5month to 4months depending on how unlucky are you in many cases visa expires and this make many trouble , you will have also problems with different borders police which want bribe....

longline was designed as for truck cab for silk road of 21st century but for sure no one was on that road.....

that kind of long transport is very rare in normal commercial cases most of such long routes are for nato, since nato isnt "liberated" any nation recent there is not too much work with this ( our truckers did drive in iraq afganistan) last year was popular go to kyrgyzstan , they are bringing all supplies in trailer boxes

btw those truckers who go there say that largest cab are problem for cab suspension since they are going up to 500km offroad with many potholes at once

90% of all european truck transport is in 500km distance(310mille) and most longhaulage drivers come home at least once or twice per week

btw that longline cab is not that good as you all thinking about it......

i believe that it have same or less storing space than topline 4series.....

front of cab is same( bunk above windshield)

on passenger seat you dont have too much adjusting space (same as in 4series )

driver seat can go very much back (just like in topline when you lift bottom bed )

lower bunk is placed behind passenger seat and it is 200x90cm and 30cm(1ft) thick

bed is places with one part of it(20x70cm) on engine tunel which is high 30cm so bunk is placed at 60cm-2ft from floor ....too high for seating on it

....bunk is 90cm-3ft wide so no body can sit on it and recline , on right wall of cab you have some back rest(while are you sitting on bed) and it have some small storage there......

below bunk are two small drawers , right cab storage(from standard cab behind passenger seat) is not available inside!!!

above bunk on right you have some small wall storages and safe deposit box..... on back wall you have foldable table with some small storage ....

top part of rear wall have big cabbinets which can be found in some topline cabs....this include microwave , caffe machine, 65L fridge and some storage place......

on left wall you have chair and storage below it which can be available from in and outside..... in front of that chair you have cabinet with sink and running water, bin for garbage , few ladders and outside storage .......

this cab could be done much better......

i will explain all better latter i have now some work to do ....

if you are talking about longline, it ride better than trucks you have now, scania is not softest truck but i would say that even normal scania truck ride much better than yours current truck

with longer cab and 3axle it ride much better .....

also keep in mind that longline come serially with front air suspension axle , only 3of them are ordered specially without front air
