OK. I was recruited by CRST and thought very hard about working for them. I want long haul OTR and expect to be gone for 3-4 weeks at a time. That being said, When I went to their website and looked at their milage rates, it was very clear that I did NOT want to work for them. They pay ONLY 11 CPM !!!! Yes, that's 22 CPm split, so you are getting 11 CPM for the miles you drive. They expect you to run 6,000 miles a week and get paid $660.00 (six hundred sixty) a week.
Anyone that is stupid enough to drive 6,000 miles a week and only accept $660 a week is NUTS.
If you don't check out the company you are going to work for, you will get screwed every time.
Best of luck to you and your husband. I hope you get a better deal this time. -
Until the seemingly never ending supply of naive, desperate and yes unintelligent newbies continue to flock to these companies, nothing will ever change. The op said herself that her and her husband did NO RESEARCH! That pretty much sums it up. And while all of this goes on, trucking's image gets even worse, thanks to many of these poorly trained unwashed rubes that are warming the seats at these megas.
These companies have absolutely zero culpability for their actions, and in fact in many cases see huge profit from this business model, which is really little more than preying on the ignorant, which there is obviously no shortage of. -
CRST is in a ####e ton of trouble out here in california with their contract students from 2005 to present. A class action suit has ordered the company to cease their collection efforts and pay res to former and current contractees. This frees up lots of former and current drivers from having to fulfill their 8 months before going otr with another company. I was one of those guys. Only did four months on my eight month tract', then found out i was trapped with crst if I ever wanted back into the industry. I decided to work local truckin and give up on otr until i got that letter; Now im free as bird and headed off for a refresher at ffe where they don't make you run teams. My advice is to ALWAYS research, ask lots of questions and know (almost) exactly what you're getting yourself in to before you sign ANYTHING. I jumped on CRST because i was desperate when I lost my job as a home caretaker. But 18 months later I know the game well and as soon as I got that letter I spent three month researching companies until I found the one that was right for me. Good luck!!!

Forget em, if anyone did that to me I would be calling a taxi from that flea bag motel and have them send me to the airport and book the first flight home.
Get home and tell them to kiss off. -
maybe just maybe ur husband was the psycho.....

well i'll be ###### if anyone is putting me out of a truck like that...it would have been the other driver left there...
my son worked for them..and they told him to get off the truck and my boy told them He wasnt being left any where and that if anyone was getting of the truck it was the other guy...some how they made it back to Cedar Rapid and my son drove 19 straight hours to get there cuz he said he wasnt letting that other poopooo head drive at all... -
Lots and lots of negatories about team driving. Seems to me it would be an okay way to start out...two sets of eyes and so forth, until you really get the hang of it. Can it really be worse than 4 years on a fast attack submarine, with close quarters, hot bunking, limited showering and poor quality air? And talk about wild man personalities...!

What's to research, especially if you're a new grad? They all pay lousey if you have no experience. If you go by what's said on forums like this, one person will say a company is great, while someone else will say the very same company sucks, big time. Then, you can do like me. Research the heck out of a company, online, and by talking to people. Come to a painstaking decision, then ask for a pre-hire letter right before I'm scheduled to start school, then find out they are no longer hiring in my area. Since Florida seems to be Death Valley for companies hiring newbies (with the exception of CRST), looks like I'll either have to move or be content to work for food.

I was told CRST don't use E-Z Pass for toll roads, YOU PAY and wait to be reimbursed by CRST. Whats wrong with that picture? How did he make out? Finish the thread CRSTWife.
