The fuel consumption of an APU is much less than an engine idling for the same amount of time. You need to determine how much idle time you are using now.
Calculate the cost of idle fuel per month, then calculate the APU's fuel usage per month for the same idle time, then subtract the two. Divide the cost of the APU installation by the dollars saved per month. If the payback period is reasonable to you than it might be worth getting an APU.
I am trying to get hired on with a company that is using or moving toward APUs. Otherwise I will have to pay for the fuel to idle out of my own pocket if I want to stay warm or run my electric appliances on 10hr / 34hr periods and still meet the miles per gallon expectations of the company. At nearly $5/gallon that idle time will add up real fast on the meager wage a newbie like me is afforded. -
Which one is the power cube? I am familar with the new electric Tri-paks by Thermo King--is that what you mean?

Ml48603 if ur company driver don't matter if they got an apu or not if so cool. If not idle the truck.

I know my APU is a carrier, 1-3 gallon every 12 hours from what they say.

It's not just about $$$ saved per month, but how many miles it will take you to break even.

co tried that in my truck. Wouldn't cool off below 80 degrees or warm up over 35 degrees! so certified clean air idling is perfect for me. sleep like a baby in the truck even with the reefer going.

Thanks all, I know what an APU is etc. What I was looking for was specifics
on the brand "Power Cube". Am making the investment just trying to narrow
down the field so to speak. -

How well it performs depends on who works on it and if they know what their doing. A/C went out, Boyd serviced had A/C that night before it went out. Hauled it to a Carrier, first thing he says when I said the blower just got replaced, "Yup, Boyd has no idea what the the hell they're doing.
