I've read the regs, and didn't insert my foot... you should have heeded your own advice. You should have read your own cite. -- my emphasis added

This level 1 inspection (and this was the only thing wrong) violation earned me an OOS with a repair shop 7.6 miles away and earned me a PSP scoring when the system went live. The violation was on a non-steering axle.

According to your own posting and link above, you prove my point that you were making a blanket statement that isn't always applicable. CVSA and FMCSA are only NOW trying to move toward standard inspection procedures because they haven't been doing them up to now and the only way that CSA is going to be equitable is if all inspections are done in a uniform and non-variant way nationwide.

This was my wake up call to the seriousness of CSA before it was created because I got that violation in 2008. CSA was born in Maryland. ---
I was given the ticket and points because it was already their SOP that the driver is ultimately responsible, since the O/O's didn't pay the tickets/fines, Maryland was going after the drivers and making them responsible. I know, because I asked.

Limping beats waiting half your 14 for a service truck, then the load is postponed for another day because you were 9 hours late.

You do realize those are very narrow exceptions, right? Most times when a windshield cracks, it's a long and view obstructing one....at least most of the one's I've had, YMMV. :D

A cracked windshield is something I will get fixed, even if the load is late by a day and a half.

Getting pretty deep. You'll run with a blown out tire, but not with a 2 inch crack in the passenger side of the windshield? Getting real deep.

I had a large crack/bullseye in the passenger windshield that I only replaced when it wouldn't pass the Texas yearly inspection. Made it through two roadside inspections in Arizona.

Frontal mirror, won't run unless I can see it clearly. I know that IS a reg, having use of all mirrors at all times.

The only mirrors required by DOT regulation are your two side mirrors, which you can't see through the windshield.
My point is, you will run with a flat tire, which is an OOS violation, but you won't run with a crack in the passenger side windshield, which is not even looked at in the CVSA inspection criteria. Makes no sense to me.

A flat can be limped and won't cause a water leak or become a safety hazard, as in that crack gets hit by a rock again it will shatter the entire thing. Someone will be going to the ER to have glass picked out of his eyes.

That flat is a safety hazard, that is why it is classified as an OOS violation. The windshield is laminated safety glass, it won't blow apart like a window in your house.
The sun could become a super nova next week, but that doesn't mean it will. Let's stick with reality, not conjecture.
