Ok. However, it takes no more time to go around the pocket, then it does to go through the pocket. So why even do that and create that limit?

please explain how a 1/4 twist makes the threads in the strap shorter?

in a proper twist the strap doesnt lay over on any other part of the strap, and the singing of the strap ? what that vibration will cause is a rubbing of the strap where it contacts a load, if it does it bad enough it will actually sort of melt the nylon threads, you can see that at times , it will feel like the ends of a nylon rope melted together with a cigarette lighter.

and you should check the manufacturers website, ancra states on their site a twist is perfectly acceptable

    SHC and Mommas_money_maker Thank this.

I think your missing the point ... Going through the pocket you only have 2 points of contact ... Around the pocket you have four ... Stop being lazy and go around its safer

As stated by others in this thread , it is actually a 1/2 twist.:biggrin_25520: (get the wordplay?)

Skateboardman,i will explain it by giving an extreem example.(i know it isn't a real life situation but it is the only way i see to explain)

Take a 4 foot long strap , attached to a solid point.
Pull on it when it is straight.
You will be 4 foot away front the solid point.

Then twist that strap 40 times.
You will not be able to pull it to the same point.
You will be less then 4 feet away.

Granted ,on a 1/2 twist the effect will be much less, but it still will be there.

I hope i made it clear.

Takes the same amount of time to hook the chain to itself or to the stake pocket. And even if it did take longer, couldn't be more than 5 seconds, and if you're on that tight of a schedule then u are doing something wrong ;)

I don't have stake pockets on my trailer, I have to hook them completely differently than you guys, but the peace of mind would make me want to spend the extra effort to get as much WLL as I could, especially when hauling coils like you do Classix

Actually, you and I do have stake pockets, but they are a very different design.

I dont use straps...even if I load shotgun I use rubber mats over the top and use a chain (unless the shipper doesnt allow)

If coils slow up this winter I am going to invest about $500 on the straps that have chains on both ends because its a pain to drop the flathook through the rubber lining on the tarp system

    SHC Thanks this.
