Yep your are correct, I forgot about the 6.9, I had one of those in an 85 F350, then had one of the 7.3, I think it was an 01, but couldn't remember what the 6. something was. They gradually got out of my affordable price range. Both of these engines ran over 300,000 before I sold them.

My '94(pre turbo) had 320,000 and still ran strong. Got 20mpg average

I had straight pipes from the exhaust manifold back

Oh there no joke, that 7.3 made from 95-03 was quite arguably the best diesel engine ever put in a pickup. They proved themselves to be one hellva engine.

What year powerstroke. And since you have the the oil cooler out can u check the the hpop line,it has a snap to connect fitting and they have issues with leaking over time u can check this line with air pressure.Ford, navistar, offers an updated stc fitting with a one piece branch tube.

The engine in the picture is a Navistar VT365. Not sure what Ford calls it.

Did it throw any codes? And what were the code numbers? Inspect the ICP regulator, I see it in your picture. Look at the end and see if any metal particals are in the screen. If so the HPOP is done. Also could be in one of the oil rails in the head, may have a oring gone? More info on the issues would help!
