I would love to get on there and do the weekend northeast position they have available, but the community college I am getting my cdl from doesn't appear to be on their list of schools...

Probably worth giving them a call anyway. It might not be a comprehensive list.
-
Yeah I'll have to give them a buzz. I'm at tidewater community college in Portsmouth VA.
-
yup, i totally agree. EPES is definitely top shelf..
mostly heard good about them.. people are nice to work with.. and everyone knows about their quality services. -
knowing me....I'm all go,go,go! lol Was just ready to get home...should've honked back...I would've stopped...it's not like I was in a rush. haha well, clock was ticking for post trip, that's all! Gimme a call sometime! Everyone have a safe week!
-
WOW! and you're from CA? That's awesome....really loved running out there back in my, well, almost, rookie days...at USA Truck....but couldn't any happier here at EPES!

I'm considering Epes, but I hate running the Northeast above NYC. How often during a week do you get sent up that way? I asked the recruiter but was only told quit a bit. What percentage of Epes freight is up that way? I don't mind PA, NY State, NJ once every two weeks but my last company seemed to keep me up in CT, RI. I hated it. I was also considering Averitt Regional for this reason but I would rather run NE than shave my face!!! HA HA,, Also I read alot of post talking about waiting 4-5 hours at the shippers. Is this just complaining rants or does this happen regularly with Epes shippers/receivers?
Thanks -
Lucky the otr fleet sees the northeast right often but the southeast fleet would rarely see it. Se fleet is not always open, but every once in awhile they add a few.
They are still looking for 6 dedicated drivers for minersville pa (Harrisburg area), home daily. Brand new Volvos and brand new trailers! .50 cpm on that account. Anybody in that area looking give me a shout! -
you will run Pa and jersey ALOT.....you may be in and out of jersey 3 or 4 times in a week if you get stuck in that spin cycle lol.....north of there it just depends on the luck of the draw but the recruiter's statement of 'quite a bit' is pretty accurate as you just can't predict it.....you may do NH,Mass,Ct,Vt once in a week and then not see them for 2 weeks or more and then you may run back and forth between there and the mid-atlantic or southeast alll week.....you get what you get. if you hate running northeast above nyc that much then this probably isn't the company for you. i can't stand it either but with the bonus pay we're getting for it and some forethought and good trip planning i'm learing to live with it.....
average time on dock is 1-2hrs for live load/unload.....there are certain customers (around 5% would be a good number for my personal experience) though you hate to get the load assignment because they get in no hurry.....go to lumberton and you know it's going to be 4-5hrs minimum......same for morton salt in ohio....a clothing supplier down in florida i've only been to a few times but remember sitting 5+ every time......those are just 3 off the top of my head.....the few walmart live unloads we do are 2hrs minimum set your watch by it......just depends on where you are but there are those cutomers you are going to sit and wait several hours.....it won't take but around 4-6 months to get around to enough of the customers you get a feel for who doesn't get in a hurry and who does.......and the ones that don't really take their sweet ### time about it......sometimes it's just wait time to get to the dock.....3 hours at shipper this morning but only took 30 minutes to get loaded.....the rest of the time was check in and hurry up and wait to get to the dock....we have alot of smaller customers that deliver to larger customers....both in size and room to operate at their facilities....the one today was only one dock and just enough room for one truck at the dock.....park 1/4 miles away in the other parking lot and watch for the guy in front of you to pull out and then you go block traffic on the one street in town and get into the enclosed dock.....with 9am sun in your face lol....but they were quick loading.....
most of it is d/h on one end or both but i am seeing alot more live loads or unloads lately.....but also for the most part average time is 1-2 hours on dock. -
I will say also for those times stuck on dock like that I've never had one issue getting paid detention.....as long as it's an appointment, which is usually the case. My DM is right on it and I get the confirmation for the pay as soon as I send my loaded call and don't even have to ask for it. Only bad ones are the small percentage where you have a window for a live load/unload because then you're just screwed although I have gotten detention a couple of times in that situation just by shooting a message and saying "hey I was here at 8am and it's 2pm now they just got done" and he's paid me the time. That makes it a little more bearable and luckily those types of situations are few and far between.
