Today at the TA in Wheelers Ridge,Ca a man was run over by another driver while walking back to his truck across the fuel island. His legs were crushed, one to the point it will most likely be amputated. I got there just after he was hit, and tried to help until the paramedics arrived. This accident was caused by both men not paying attention to thier surroundings.

We have all seen the drivers speeding through a busy parking lot, and the drivers that pay more attention to their phones then they do thier truck. But as professionals we know better. Slowing down in a parking lot or taking two seconds too check your surroundings will not make you late. Its common sense, and if you cant do that you have no business behind the wheel. Most of us think it wont happen to us, but trust me, both of those men probably thought the same thing. I hope you will join me in offering a prayer for both men and thier families.

P.S. I was very upset with some drivers lack of respect when the injured man was in pain and crying. I saw one man try to take a picture with his phone. The disrespect of some of the people out here amazes me.

It's at this point that it really does not matter who we all work for, we are all on the same team. Pray for this man and his family.

Drivers definitely need to be more aware of their surroundings, but I feel that truck stops should also be somewhat accountable. Have someone monitoring fuel islands/parking lots and reporting unsafe behavior to the companies.

I have loss count of how many times i have seem trucks RACE thru the fuel island.
It's all about me me me. SCREW YOU GET OUT OF MY , you shouldn't be walking there Attitude.
I'd like to see trucks stops add Speed bumps at the entrance of each fuel island. That would slow down the wanna be nascar driver down.

No offense, but how is the truckstop accountable, the truck stop is not driving the truck, and as far as monitoring the fuel islands, they don't have enough help to run the cash registers the way it is...... The truckstop isn't going to turn any one in they want the business.

Cross walks at truckstops would be a good idea. Like when you are at a receiver or shipper and they have yellow lines telling you the safest path to walk. I know some of the lazy ######## will take the short cut out of the path. But if they do it's on them.

Few people pay attention to the crosswalks on the streets, much less at a shipper/receiver or truck stop, unfortunately. It's the 'Me, me, me, my business is more important than yours' attitude.
