I looked at the thread title and my first thought was to stop spending money on keeping the truck maintained. Then I thought oh we're talking about container haulers so $0.00 spent on truck maintenance is kind of automatic. So I guess I have no advice to offer.

Hate hauling containers. This is my opion: heard there is money in for O/O ot BUT... focusing on the company driver, most drivers get paid per load, and it takes a few hours to get in and get out. I wont explain the process. Wen you get the container put on your chassis, its all that weight put on At one time, wich weakens the suspension. I cant tell you how many busted looking trucks roll into the pier. Most of the drivers look so unprofessional as well. Atleast in philly. The containers are SOOOO TOP HEAVY, that it makes rolling over easy if your not careful. You always have to drive 10 mph under limit for safety. The people working at the pier are soo ridiculously slow and very rude!! They are union, they can get away with it. So inmy opion, not worth it.

Well, your not entirely correct. I hual containers, I get paid a split of hourly or percentage. Everything within 100 air miles is hourly, beyond that is percentage of rate charged to broker. Yes, our O/O makes very good money. Oh, and our trucks are very well maintained, in 15 yrs I've had two OOS, one for a log book mistake, the other for a twist lock that broke in transit. The problem with the chassis is the owners, railroads and steamship lines, they don't give a crap about the equipment. I suppose in some markets, since the chassis owners don't care, the trucking companies decide to follow suite.

I haul containers, they are heavy and they tear your truck up... Most truckers can't drive so thats why their truck looks so bad... You can do 5-7 over the speed limit most of the time you have to to get up those grades and steep hill. I get paid a little bit not much yes im a o/o... When i used to run out of state I was getting at least 3,500- 6,000 about 2 years ago now it's to much competition...

    lol.

I don't know why folks still pull for cheap rates. In my opinion, the trucks appearance is a reflection on how well they are doing. Of course there is an exception to this.

I hauled containers for a while. I made more money by switching to reefer.
