Why? Because not all direct freight works out to be a better deal like all broker freight is a bad deal. We do a significant amount of business with customer that only charge $25-$100 per load above what they bill the customer. Freight never hits a public board and best part is I don't have to worry about getting a truck back to cover the freight.

Why do you think you see all this cheap freight? Not because there are ten's of thousands of idiots that can't do math. But because you have trucks that need to get back for direct freight. In the Mega Carrier model where $.05/mile profit equals big money that is fine. But the typical O/O needs to be smarter about how they run and being locked into being at a shipper every Monday and Wednesday at 8 am is likely not going to be more profitable.

And the direct accounts that blast out lists so you don't have to worry are working this business model because of the volume they do they can book loads cheaper than what they would have to pay a carrier or broker and have the job done in-house (although it is debatable how well many of these people do this).

since we're all expressing a little frustration with ITS, I'll throw in my beefs. There is one broker (what the heck, it's Transport America) who has a client in Peru, IL. It's heavy loads 48,000 and they want 'em hauled cheap. They repost every load 5 or 6 times with the origin listed as Peru, Ottawa, LaSalle, Spring Valley, Princeton, ... basically all the towns within 20 miles. I guess this generates more calls on the loads, more chances to get it booked cheap ?? ticks me off because I have to scroll through all these TA loads when looking for loads in the area.

The other one that ticks me off is Tennant on Baltimore loads. Tennant is a broker and trucking company with a lot of stepdecks. They have all these tractor loads posted for cheap coming out of Baltimore. How cheap ? I was told $1.60/mile on an OVERSIZED load to nowheresville, IA with 3 stops ! There's no way their trucks are hauling that stuff for anywhere close to that low. I can only assume what they are doing is trying to seize control of all the tractor loads coming out of Baltimore they can get their hands on, if they can get people to haul 'em cheap they make $$$, if they send their own trucks they make $$$. Maybe that's good business, ticks me right off though.

Basically everybody is squeezing the little guy like a zit.
Van is even worse and fuel is going through the roof. I was going to buy a truck in the spring but..... NAH I'll keep driving somebody else's for now.

You can right click on the load, select 'Don't show again' from the popup menu, and it will hide all of the TA loads in that search.

Good place to start building a business relationship close to home would be your local chamber of commerce. Become a member of your local chamber of commerce and you have a foot in the door to alot of business owners big and small. Any business owner can join. Great way to make direct business contacts!!

Direct freight is a joke for a one or two truck operation. These guys would cry about that to. Can't find any decent freight to get me back, or dead heading back to cover loads is killing me. Some people will just never be happy, and keep doing the exact same things they are doing now and keep complaining about it. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.
