It isn't just Texas rates are crap everywhere now.. Yeah you can find some good rates.. Heck there are good rates in Texas they might not be going where you want to go... I read something the other day that California and Texas have the most truck traffic and is the destination of like 47% of all freight.. So yeah rates are going to stink to many trucks in 1 area and the big companies believe 3 to 5 cents profit is outstanding.. What can you do.. Take the cheap crap or deadhead 200 to 1000 miles.

Don't go down there for less than $3.85 a mile, personally I'd have to have $4.10 one way. Passed up on lots of 1200 mile loads going down there for $3.25 before the company's percentage came off the top and deadhead was factored in. That made them $2.65-$2.85 too cheap for me.

If you can't do $3 down you're screwed cause if you don't have any contacts back up you'll be lucky to get a $1 out maybe a $1.30 if you're lucky. If you can do TX intrastate for short-term that might help til spomething better comes up.. It's a dead end place to go with a dry van.. Too many trucks go there, commands a better rate for me to go there. But some of the Texas guys come out for a decent rate and $2 a mile going back is great for them..

depends on where you go. best tbing to.do.if you cant deadhead out is to get a short load to like okc, tulsa, joplin, little rock. then get a better.one out of there. if you try to go tothe midwest out of tx your going to do it for $1/mi.

but if you want to stay a while you can run around all week for $4+/mi. if you have oilfield contacts you can double that
