Schneider Corriopolis Orientation - Tanker Training

a man i went to cdl school went thru tanker trainig in Pa said only 7 of 17 passed all thier tests to work for Schneider. He ended up not taking the job found out he didnt like standing on top of tanks
Drives buses Toms River Nj to Manhatten makes more money then me with days off but putting up with 4 trips a day to NYC i would rather not tyvm

Quick question regarding the training - do the weekends count in the 24 days or is it just weekdays? I'm guessing they do but just wanted to check. Start training this Thursday (9-20) in PA. Anyone else reading this going to be there?

 

Yes, it includes all days, even days off (if applicable, ie - between on site training segment and road training segment). It may not even be 24 days, even with days off.

 

Ok so I may get time off during training? I am driving myself from Savannah GA up to Corriopolis so roughly 600 miles away. Might be hard to get home during training as I cant see them giving you that much time. Can you elaborate a little more please. I have 2 little girls, 1 and 3 and its going to be hard not seeing them for that long. Plan on doing Skype every night to talk to them. I know it could be worse and I keep thinking about guys in the military and wondering how they do it. Thats what I'm telling my wife anyways. Small sacrifice now to better myself for the future....

 

You MIGHT get some time off in between Coraopolis and road training. But I would view that as a bonus, rather than counting on it. The 11 days at Coraopolis will be straight through, with no days off. If you manage your time, you'll have plenty of time to talk to your fam in the evening, but the wifi at the hotel was pretty bad in my experience. If you need WIFI do do that, you may have to try it from different areas, like the lobby. After Coraopolis, it's possible you'll drive your vehicle home and hook up with a TE in your area and you may have a day or two off. If you have a trainer who is a local driver, you'll be running local and likely have some days off during that time. Hope that helps!

 

Thanks for the info. I appreciate it. I'm glad you mentioned the wifi I was wondering about that. I got a mobile hotspot to use so I should be fine. Sounds like there are a variety of possibilities. We'll just have to see how it goes. Looking forward to it. Any other tips since you just went through this?

 

.. just pay attention, stay relaxed and have fun. You'll be taking tests just about every day in the classroom with the stuff you covered. Do your best to retain it and make sure you get enough sleep. Ask questions if you're not sure about something. Driving? haha, if you're just out of CDL school and only pulled empty trailers, you're in for some real fun! The Coraopolis area has no shortage of curvy hills and you'll have plenty of liquid to slam you around. Some trailers will kick your rear, some are mild. If your shifting is rough, you'll be getting that fixed pronto. Most of us crapped out (stalled) on the hills during the first climbs. All the training personnel were great and I was also fortunate to have a great group of classmates, most of which I became good friends with. I met some great people and had a great time. No regrets.
