Ok, I understand 2.25 is good, but you're leaving 50-75 cents on the table and you don't have to deal with a brokers nonsense I'll take it, but this discussion is like listening to a "drivers only" conversation at a TA

HA...I'm just saying that this business model works for ME...but may not be for everyone.
I like being paid timely vs 30/60/90 days out too. Cash flow can be really tight at 60days out for pay.
So perhaps a few pennies less per mile is worth that for me... -
Ever consider running for Mercer? Rates are good and still get to choose all your own loads. A lot of loads you never see on the load boards.

Mercer is a great company. I will second that. They call me as soon as I post my equipment with them and they pay FAST!

I have 5 direct customers within 100 miles of home and 1 is direct deposit 3 are paid within 2 wks and 1 is paid as soon as they can.......I do a lot of customer pick up that's check on delivery, lots of LTL, the only way I don't run with a FULL trailer is if im maxed out on weightSHC Thanks this.

How do you know that your direct bids don't have you leaving 50 cents on the table? I have brokers who sometimes only make $50 or $100 off a load. Everyone's situation is different. Cut and dry "direct is always better" is old school thinking inside the box typical of truck stop counter chatter.
SHC Thanks this. -
"Direct is always better," maybe a good practice for companies with alot of trucks. For one or a few trucks is not the case. The last carrier I was leased to had alot of direct freight, the majority of it paid good. The problem was, they would grab the cheap crap loads to get you back to cover their direct freight. Basicaly enough to pay for fuel, I started refusing to haul the cheap crap and told them I don't need to go home, find me something that pays good and let me stay out and run. They would not do it so I left for greener grasses. Have not been happier since, I would quit before I go back to that again.
SHC Thanks this. -
I pick up the checks?

Again, not what he is saying, how do you know the shipper doesn't have more money to pay you? That is your argument against brokers, it works the same way with shippers, you agree to $3 a mile, how do you know he wouldn't have agreed to $4.50 a mile?
