I agree I never owned the mx, I owned the better engine which is still ####e, by the way I have driven the MX, how would you know I hadn't ? Don't make outrageous claims you can't substantiate ! How many trucks have you owned??? And again correct me if I'm wrong but your PACAAR engine was rebuilt by your own admission at 200,000? What a legendary design! a whole 200,000, wow, a masterful fete of engineering! but of course it was just a fault that was taken care of! Mine were pre egr 2003 and those had the same problem and that problem persists to this day ! On top of the engines problems is the poor backup service, Nolans have approx 600 DAFS, apart from them do you wanna know how many trucks the top selling truck in Ireland in 2007 above 17 tonnes sold this year ? Yup 3 , a whole 3 ! I'm not loyal to any brand, the best value for money gets me, right now below 550hp it's volvo (which I promise are not like US volvo) but too many people here have been burned by DAF/PACAAR . People here have learned

Maybe we can learn something.
i do wish you would check your facts,Nolan's don't own 600 Daf's.
Scaniaman??????
Ok,that was an assumption by me.
How did they get you into such atruck?
At gunpoint? -
Everyone knows what egr is!
Scaniaman yes! but still I'd prefer to buy a Volvo for general haulage!
How did they get me into one?? Easy , pay me, I dont care what I drive and DAF. Are quite nice to drive, just wouldn't wanna own one -
I know what EGR is.
You statedAnd i am asking you what you mean by pre egr 2003.

With "us" i mean all who read this.Click to expand...
So..... I forget , was that 200,000miles or kilometers your engine was rebuilt? And did you say you owned the truck or you're a driver?Click to expand... -
Your statement
Implies that there is a present EGR.Mine were pre egr 2003Click to expand...
Do you mean that after 2003 they were EGR engines? -

No offense, but are you retarded? -
A previous post from a former poster on this forum, a mechanic from Ireland that deals with all makes of trucks , and no, I don't know him !Stick with your Cummins guys....these MX engines are some pile of junk....Just wait until they are four or five years old....Paccar will be lucky if it doesn't break them. Nearly every one of them passing through our workshop has been opened for various reasons....excessive oil consumption, dropping valves, blowing up,running bearings etc....A Cummins,,Caterpillar,Detroit,Scania,Volvo,Mercedes is a Rolls Royce next to these yokes. They are fine for three or four years and then they fall to bits. Any of my customers who bought them for light work found them satisfactory, but any of them doing hard/heavy work got rid of them and went back to Scania,Mercedes or Volvo.
I have a friend who is a meticulous owner driver, who has his 2008 DAF 510bhp MX maintained by a dealer close to the factory in Holland where they are made. After 350,000miles,the MX engine dropped a valve while he was at the very North of Sweden. The engine grenaded itself. Daf in Sweden wanted in the region of US $30,000 to rebuild it. Even the SCR exhaust box had to be replaced at a cost of over US$5,000. After four weeks negotiating with the DAF dealers and factory, they eventually did the job for a lesser sum(I wasn't told how much). He suffered more than a month off the road between the repairs and the arguing with DAF/Paccar. So much for the great back up and warranty they are blowing about. Even though he is motoring again,he can't wait to get rid of the technical marvel of an MX.....but he must first try and recoup his losses.
Stick with your Cummins guys.....you will be well paid for it in resale value in years to come and lack of downtime...and at least in the US...there are several good workshops who can fix them.....The MX will end up like Volvo's/Mercedes own engines in the US....Too complicated,no one able to fix them, extravagantly priced parts and extravagantly priced labour as a lack of technical expertise and know how will exist.
