Hey kind folks...
I've just been given a 1999 4-series 14L V8 Scania to drive. Only problem is, I've driven Macks, KW's, Stars, F'liners, but never something that speaks Swedish...
I was told to drive it like a C-15 Cat- low and strong. Fair enough... They didn't tell me about the tranny tho- therein lies my problem. I won't be talking to the owner again now until much later on, and I don't want to seem like a goose and have to ring up now and ask how to drive the box. So, here's a pic:

It's got what I'd call a splitter button (but it might be a deep reduction a`la 15sp RR) on the side and that silver collar is what I think would be a range change. Surely it can't be a 6sp- the bloody thing is rated for a 90t road train! Maybe its got 6 gears in two ranges, but each is split?
Cheers Shaggers and Shaggettes.

Only way is to drive it and test it out

hello this is scania grs900 gearbox 12speeds +2crawler , silver is range switch , that white is spliter
-
btw dont forget that this is syncro box if you never ride one be gently shift it slowly without forcing it , in most cases single clutch is good enough but if it is already worn out you might need to double clutch it( again slowly) 2-3seconds each gearchange
-
it is like Volvo VTXX14 tranny, really it is good tranny, the only difference, that you have to depress clutch fully to shift.
Daz Thanks this. -
silver collar is for range shift ,button for spliter, dont use crawler gear in high range position, its a 12+2 transmission

You guys are brilliant! Just what I needed. The owner seems to think its a crash box, so maybe she's a little tired...

hey guys,,i have scania 420 HPI 2004 using gearbox grs900..the problem is i heard a grinding sound when high range is just selected..i had change the worn out gears last week...can anyone help me out to solve this problem..

i dont understand it is just 10year old , such problems should not appear at least in next 10 year with normal driver, you must be very careless
i have 27year old truck which was always driven by owners not drivers , it is tipper so have many of gearshifts per day i guess sometimes more than 1000 , gearbox was never opened ....in recent time it show problems with split , when shifting it from direct gear +0.5, ( for example 7H to 8L , you first have to shift it to 8 and than move spliter down, i think my brother caused this because he shift splits very quick i heard few times grinding when he do this -
