    Hey Guys,
I was looking for any drivers on here so I could ask you some questions regarding the company and how you like it. I've got several Pre-Hires and will graduate my CDL School next week and Averitt got my attention this week when the recruiter visited the school.

    Thanks,
    Sly

it all really depends on what you want out of trucking
i try to stay neutral but i obviously like transam and do driver recruiting for them
they are a good company to start with to get experience and nice equipment
the automatics make one less thing to think about as you start your career

Pete, thanks for the reply.....Hopefully I'll get some Averitt Drivers to chime in. Here's my dilemma now.
I've been pre-hired with all things checked (criminal, driving and employment) and Prime is ready to send me to SpringMo for orientation......but the Averitt Recruiter has me interested...because of home time weekly. Prime's CPM is better (.41 cpm - .36 + .05 for driving a Light Weight Truck), but I'd be in a Light Weight Cascadia and to be honest, they seem pretty tight in there, not much room at all compared to a full condo....plus Prime would be Reefer vs Dry at Averitt.

Things that concern me are miles at both companies.....your CPM means nothing if the miles are not there.

Both Prime and Averitt seem like great places to start my career......decisions, decisions!!

Well I would think that you could have the possiblity, at some point, to drive local if you went with Averitt. Depending on how far you are from the terminal of course.

True....or I could go Prime for a year...then the doors open up for many more jobs.....either OTR, Regional or Dedicated.

Sly, I started out with a starter company (Swift) and worked for them for just under a year. Went back to my old industry for almost three years and then due to medical issues I ended up back in a truck. I have been with Averitt for almost 10 months and I love it. They treat you well and with a ton of respect. No BS from the recruiter. Everything they have promised I have gotten. I don't have to fight for stop pay, layover pay, breakdown pay or detention pay. The longest I have had to sit was 32 hours at our Memphis yard during hurricane Issac. I get home every weekend and average 2200 miles a week. The last several weeks my average has been 2500. The uniform isn't a hassle at all. The mustache only hits some people as a deal breaker but I have seen guys shave the goatee for orientation and then grown a thin one back afterwards and they tell me nothing much is ever said about it. Radiation for thyroid cancer took care of my ability grow a beard so no big issue for me, but I had a goatee for over 20 years.

My advice is read all you can on these forums and make a decision that is right for you. I am a huge cheerleader for Averitt because it is so much better than my first experience. I like being treated with respect and kindness. I get plenty of that here, even when I have messed up.

Hope this helps. Congrats on your new adventure.

Got a question too, how much does start out pay with Averitt?
