I would love to hear from some tanker drivers that chain and drive with a live loads. When I drove through WO on the I-80 in the snow, the the tankers drove by like it was a sunny day. No one was using chains at the time, but there was a lot of snow and about 25 degrees above 0. I have not driving in snow much, so I am always willing to listen to those that have. When I drove for OD we puled over on I-70 in Denver going west to put on chains.(night) It was so cold that me and my partner could not feel are hands. We got back in the truck and drove a few more miles, looking for a place to hold up for the night. We found a nice spot that had room for about five trucks, (don't recall the name of the place, year was 1997) Then the snow storm really got bad. We where both glad that we stopped. That was the closest I had ever come to putting on chains. To this day I'm glad I missed that opportunity. OD would try to keep us on the I-25 in the winter when running CA to Denver CO, but it did not always work out that way. It was COLD,COLD, COLD !!!

Keep your tanks above 50%, keep your food locker stocked, keep your Carrhart's ready.

Here is a vid I did a couple of years ago I had to wait my turn to get into a lease that was in rough shape so I decided to video putting on heavy trygg triples .. this isnt in the driveway on a sunny day its real life out in the bush..Last edited by a moderator: May 9, 2015
CAXPT and FEELTHEWHEEL Thank this. -
Now I am wondering about this last comment.....cold, probably...muddy, obviously....but I didn't see any rain or snow coming down, didn't see any 4 wheelers or other trucks going by splashing (or trying to splash) while applying the chains....what exactly is the difference in a teaching video on the location and sunshine or not???Last edited by a moderator: May 9, 2015

Well it is MUCH nicer to throw iron on a warm, dry day on a concrete pad! Especially with a cooler of iced beer handy!!
CAXPT and otherhalftw Thank this. -
