I was wondering the same thing, is percentage really better than miles and if so do you get enough high paying loads a week to make it worth it? Can you switch at any time?
-
According to my recruiter, your trainer reviews both options with you each week that you're on the road with him/her. That way you have a better idea how each works and which would be better. You are allowed to switch between mileage pay and percent pay every six months.

What each load pays has a big part to do with it also. Certain areas, like the deep south, generally have low paying freight. You can do everything right and still some weeks will not be great. That's the name of the game in this business though.

As far as training goes, they won't let you do that unless your record with tmc is clean. If you have tickets or accidents, you can kiss that idea goodbye for a while. Also you've really got to be a people person, let me tell you, it gets real cozy in a 379 with two dudes who don't really know each other living in there. And for god sake, keep yourself clean!!!

Can you make that much while being home on the weekend?
-
I did 50k with them and ran dedicated most of the time. Also % is a better way to go on linehaul. Btw any load going to nyc or longisland is a extra $100 cpm or %. Loads going to rhode island pay very well. Loads coming out not so much.

Ok... so here is a question:
When you take percentage pay from ANY company, you are assuming that your percentage is of the absolute most paid for that load. But is it? For instance, I have heard it said that large companies have their own brokerage firms that acquire the loads. This brokerage firm takes their cut and then passes the load onto the trucking company who then offers you a percentage of whatever is left. In addition... are you truly getting 100% of all accessoral pay? How do you know?
Does TMC have their own brokerage firm that takes their cut before TMC gets the load? I'd sure like to find out.
