Volvo D16 500 vs 600

I have a cummins 600 and if the volvo is anything like it you can expect crappy mpg of course there is a lot of factors to consider,like type of truck,(aero or square hood and your driving style. mine is in a 08 t660 kw and with a load of around 77,000lbs. I got a mere 4.5 at 65mph but with a light load it will be in the upper 5's I have spoke to owners of the 880 with the ved16 600 horse and they weren't happy with the engine or the mpg. hope this helps

 

loki, another things to consider before you buy the volvo engine is if you have a problem with that engine then you have to find a volvo dealer to work on it if you had a cummins you could go to any cummins authorized shop which are alot more plentiful, slopoke 42.

 

Wow, just looked at the video for the VT 880 on Volvo's website. Very nice. Definately a luxury rig.

I'm jealous.

 

The Volvo engines have been out for some time, so finding a mechanic who has had experience with them is not going to be as hard as it used to.

 

I would go for the biggest on the market, resale value would be retained because it is a pre 2007 emission equipment.

I have a 2007 Volvo 880. (in my album are some pictures)
I bought it used a little.
And it is doing something funny.
I fidn that it is giving me an average of around 6.5 per then gallon
but on the dash it shows me 7.5 per the gallon.
I dont get it. its taking more fuel then it says.

Don't worry, it's so common that most drivers take it as a REAL mpg. Thats how we have all those BS stories about Volvo being 7.5 mpg trucks when they are not. This simple trick helps inflate sales to people who don't know much about trucks

 

D16 engines are too specific. You need a really good mechanic to work on it. Mechanics who work on D12 and D13 engines may not know all things about D16C....

So I advice you to get D13 ore ISX.... Less problems.
