I've heard the oil fields can be worse with the ups and downs. As to the pay, at least 50K and I've heard of drivers making 100K. You REALLY have to want the work to make that though. I would put 75K as an average.

There's either a huge boom going on or it's just BS. You have to wonder why they want so many drivers. I read and keep up on the production of the refineries and the output of the refineries do not match the quantity of what is being hauled. What's up there?

Perhaps those involved with hauling sand and other byproducts from the fracking process at the "big three" shale deposits are being counted (shrug).

Well I know we're very busy hiring and the stations seem packed. Sometimes we'll do a back to back haul and when we get back (one to two hours later) the gas is gone. I think most of the drivers are averaging 50-60 hours a week. My company keeps buying new Petes almost as many as we can get, they just keep coming.

It's going to stop someday. I thought we'd never have to worry about a job since we couldn't even keep up with the stations running out of gas. A few years later, not only did the terminal close but the company is no longer. We were the 7th largest oil company in the country.

Wasn't part of the closing was due to the gulf spill?

No. IIRC the trucks were pulled out before the spill. Even if it wasn't the plans to shift the trucks elsewhere were long on the board before the spill. What the company saved there could not even come close to helping pay for the spill. There are defifferent parts of the company that handle those kind of things anyway. Exxon actually made money when their tanker ran aground. It was explained to me but I have long forgotten how all that works.

I just went and rechecked my e-mails to my friends that were at ARCO and the terminal WAS closed before the spill.
