Wel Companies Orientation 09/24/2012

Hey everyone I guess it really is official! Recruiter just called me with my confirmation # for my bus ticket this Sunday! I'm very excited and nervous. First OTR company I've been with in about 6 years. Time to turn my world upside down. Anyone else on here going to this orientation? Figured I'd start a new thread and let everyone know how it goes with me and Wel. I live near Chicago I'll be taking a Grey Hound there. Yukie I hate buses I guess I don't have much choice though. I was thinking of having my wife drive me, but I don't want her driving 4 hours back by herself. What I think I know so far. I'll be a regional driver out of the Joliet yard / terminal getting .40 cpm should be home most weekends 2000+ miles a week (so they say). I'm going to bring my dog (Monty) with me, after my first week driving. They seem to have good benies. I'll find out more next week. I hope everyone is having a safe week! I'll keep in touch!

 

I will keep you all informed arrived at The Settle Inn in Green Bay about an hour ago. The bus ride Sucked! (7 hours from Chi - Gby) What can I say is any bus ride a good one? I was wondering do Bus drivers have their own laws. Between Chicago and Milwaukee going threw many construction zones this driver was passing everyone 65+! We made that part of the trip in 1 hour 15 minutes the rest of the trip took 6 hours! The hotel is ok I've stayed in allot worse in my life. They are picking up the tab so I can't complain. I'll check in tomorrow.

 

9:30, time for lap number 3 around the Gazebo then bedie bye time!!

 

Hello everyone I'll make it quick tonight. Its been a long day and the Green Bay Packers are starting! Day one orientation.
Spent about 4 hours of the morning in a line of 14 souls to pee in a cup and turn your head and cough!
The second half of the day was sitting in a class room signing our lives away in the company orientation guide book. Mostly was sitting around talking with everyone in the room shooting the poop and going out for smoke breaks. Company stuff is done now though.
The rest of the week should be good for learning things we need to know!
Hotel breakfast is kind of lame, cant complain it's free. No Banana's though! What continental breakfast does not have Banana's!!
Monday orientation there is No Lunch!! Wtf I was hungry all day!!!
Got back to hotel room around 6pm. Found out the place across the street Doozies bar and grill has an awesome Meatloaf special on Monday night!!
So there you go, time for a lap or 2 around the Gazebo then back to the room to call my honey!!
And Watch The Pack beat some Seattle Boooty!! Good night folks! I'll be back tomorrow!!

 

Hello folks day 2 at Wel orientation. A much better day! The breakfast at the hotel was worse lets hope for better tomorrow. The only hot food today was biscuits and gravy, along with 3 apples in the fruit basket dry cereal, coffee and juice? Not much to eat here.
Today we met with Wel safety people doing a 2 hour presentation,we also saw a video on fuel conservation and driving properly. Very interesting and learning experience.
The rest of the day was everyone taking driving tests 1 at a time. I feel this time could have been used better as we sat around again in the afternoon while each driver drove around! Nothing else to do while driving was happening. Home around 6:00 pm.
Dinner again at Duzzies (spelled it wrong yesterday) not as good tonight, Club sandwich waitress messed up my meal order and gave me .90 off my bill, big deal!

Best thing of the hole day I passed my driving test today. I was really nervous about this. I had not set foot in a truck in 8 months. Like lots have told me its like riding a bike nothing to be worry about! Its all true!!
