I always kept about 300 on the truck for lumpers, and when I used any of it, I'd replenish it with an advance next time I got fuel. That way there was no charge for a comchek, and no ATM charge for cash.

It's a tax deduction... ain't no big deal. Until...
Considering the folks who have been robbed at truckstops of late, I really don't want that much cash on me. -
A. I'm not stupid enough to pay $1 to save 30 cents in taxes.
B. It was in a locked cash box in the truck, usually in a locked compartment. -
More like 60-cents, just the same, its more than worth it to not have the cash in the truck.

If your tax rate is 60% you need a new accountant!

I used to work for best loading which is one of the only 3 lumper services allowed at SYSCO. Each place paid different but if you paid cash/check depending on the location the lumper unloading your truck makes 40-45%. Some locations they make 2-4cents a case and 30-40cents per pallet load breaks down into.. U can make decent $$$ off those cash loads but the ones that are prepaid. Where u don't have to pay anything outta pocket the lumper doesn't does for 20-40$. U can make a decent living doing it but I wouldn't recommend it. I did it for almost 5yrs and was about to come give prime a shot when I got a job as a order selector for sysco making really good money
