On the money thing, bring as much as you can. I had 3k in the bank, no rent or utilities to pay back home, and was down to almost 1k before I rounded the corner and started making more than I was spending. You can do it on less but it means sacrifices. So many people bail early because they're not making any money, but the right thing to do is save up and ride it out for the first two months. Training pay is less than minimum wage, plus the first two is no pay, and the first couple of weeks after upgrade is no picnic. Then just when you're getting the hang of it you have to go home to xfer your cdl.

Also make sure you have on a credit card or debit card enough to cover bus or air fare from anywhere in the US to 'home'... Not expecting to use it, but just in case... It's a comfort to know its there.

I am a trainer and I have a fridge. Students can use it my only rules are no raw meat and the door has to shut properly. One thing that bothers me is if a student buys a 12 pk of soda and puts all 12 in. 2 in the door will be fine, just put one in when you take them out.
The pillow is needed. The jail cell has no pillow and the only bedding I have for my students is a sheet and a. Blanket some use it some dont.
Back to making it as a l/o i agree that having $ in the bank will help a lot. I had $15k in the bank when I signed the lease, I thought about buying a truck but knew I was going to train and did not want to own a beat to he11 truck so I signed a lease. If I coluld go back I would have gone through a 3rd party. However I can't complaine too much, that $15k has grown to over $30k over the last 8 months.GetterDone11 Thanks this. -
hey guys hows things? ok so i leave Sunday for conely GA and was wondering on if i can wear these when im over the road with my trainer? i have jeans and khaki shorts tees and hoodies but i also have alot of basketball shorts. you know like nike gym shorts. can i wear these when driving and what not or do i have to have khaki/jean shorts or pants/jeans? also is there ways to get internet over the road without having a wifi card threw verizon or buying it threw truck stops? thanks guys

As for dress, you can but it does not make you look very professional at customers. As drivers that is something we should try to do. Not suit and tie, but jeans are a good idea. As for internet, almost no options. There are a few states that have it free in rest areas, but not many. Maybe mc donalds but only if its not in the truck stop. Those usually don't have it because the truck stop does. So in short, no good options.Jarhed1964 Thanks this.

Most big name truck stops have wifi but cost by 24 hrs or by the year go online and check out Loves FlynJ Pilot those are the 3 you'll spend most of your time at. You can get it while in your truck they have an antana on the outside corner of there building get as close as you can or go into the truck stop and pick it up. I did Pilot worked ok hope FlynJ hooked up with by now. As said before looking neat goes a long way but if your just driving wear want you want but remember the scale houses if you need to go in for a paper work issue don't want to look like a slob there.
Never did like Conley just passed it by on my way to Albany.
Best of luck. -
If there were other options AT&T wouldn't be getting $50 a month from us.
