I've been approved at Crete they want me to come work for them. I'm just not sure if the grass is greener on the other side from where I am now...

If you have been approved to Crete/Shaffer, then I would say go for it. They are the best bunch of people that I have ever driven for, and if I could, I would be back out there again. Its 21 days out/1 day home for each week/etc,etc. Watch out for the weekend bunch of dispatchers. Try to get a load that will carry you through the weekend so you wont have to deal with their incompitentness (cant spell). I averaged 2500+/week (my highest was a little over 3000/wk, and that was bustin' my #####). If you go, they will send you to a terminal to take a drug test/DOT physical, road test, then its off in the truck you go. After about a week, they will send you to one of 3? full-service terminals to take their orientation. Its 3 days and you're paid for it via a comcheck or they will gladly put in it your next check. I liked this approach because, you get assigned a truck after your initial contact with them, get some miles under your belt, then they save on hotel costs by having you bunk in your truck for the "formal orientation" BTW when you go to the terminal to take your tests, they get you there, put you up in a hotel, and dont require you to pay them back. The first 2 days are LOTS of paperwork and videos. The third (and sometimes the second day) is just waiting for a trainer to do your road test. After that you're golden! Do it you wont be dissapointed. BTW I was out of the Greensboro, NC terminal. Dan Allison is one of the best people I have worked for (very "down homey" kinda person).

Thank you for the reply, FatDaddy. That sounds like the best one yet. And you're right, every one out there that I have worked for has had "communication issues", lol

Really they didn't tell me all of that haha. They told me they would give a rental car not a bus to the East TN Terminal! I was like a rental car really? haha they were like yea a rental car. I was in disbelief cause most companies lug u on a greyhound. I'm just in a bind here cause I am at Con-way truckload now and they are a pretty good company. I'm just not getting any miles these past 2 weeks. I've read good and bad about Crete but that's any company. You take it with a grain of salt. I'm sure the testing at crete is a lot easier than what we had to do at Con-way.

Yeah. My road test in Greensboro was down past the airport. Got on I-40, went a few interchanges, got off, back on again, then back to the terminal. Easy.

And I wouldn't put it past them to put you in a rental. They're a debt free company and they really do care about their employees. If you go and you get thru the Lincoln, NE terminal, walk inside and you'll see what I'm talking about.

I think JB gives you the same per diem option, but I chose against it. I'm greedy, ya know?

Yea, I am def considering going there. They keep calling me and I'm unsure of what to say if I'm gonna put my 2 weeks in here or no. Pretty confused

Yeah. I feel your pain. If miles are down now, will they improve, or no? Crete does have miles, but as soon as ur empty, you physically have to send a free form msg saying: "empty, awaiting next load". The longest I had to wait was 2hrs for that little red light to come on with a load offer. They also (when freight is plentiful) give you a choice of load assignments. But just count on one coming across so you won't be disappointed, lol
