Go there and dont look back. They are teamsters, and pay very well! You will be on an extra board for quite some time as the turn-over rate is very very VERY low. I didnt take the job because they are a hour away and didnt feel like being on call for that. I work at YRC where Im not on call, but im a city driver and go in every day at 8am. If there is no work they call me, or if someone is late they go home and I get their route for the day

 

I agree with ACH1130. Go with ABF. Very good place to work even if you have to put up with their extra board for a while.

 

Like I said if they were closer to me I wouldve taken the job. But YRC is good too, same union and all. Pretty much same politics. IF your going as a road driver, you could be out for a few days but will always be kept in a hotel paid by the company, so you wont be sleeping in a truck. Eventually as you build senority you can get a bid run that you are home everyday. Dont know how your home life is but LTL can be very good, especially to get experience but you seem to have plenty lol. Im just waiting on the call to this constructions job I applied for

I agree that the extra board isn't fun but LTL is the way to go. I have pondered going back to dedicated OTR but when I really think long and hard about it, I always decide against it. Who wants to sleep in a truck when they pay for a hotel? Or better yet, who wants to run teams? All the good OTR companies are gone in my mind. It's been all down hill for me since CF went out of business. They were the last of the good OTR companies. Well Watkins and Overnight were good too

That's how it always was for me. All the good driving jobs are in the inland empire which is about 60-80 miles from me. I had to do that at Yellow in 2007. Took an hour and 15 min each way to work. Was still worth it. I was driving my wife's Toyota Corolla.
