swift rates for students

I started 1 yr ago as a no exp driver training is now $500 a week 1st 2 weeks then goes to $600 a week last 4 weeks til solo.

$.25 is start but moves up quick and the 1st month or so they see how you run then you can make tons of miles within a month I was running so hard I made $900 a week and just went up from there.

A good OTR driver can make $900 to $1400 but I here some make nothing could be the way they run, DM don't know I've done good my 1st yr on on track to make over $40,000 my 1st yr and I was told I would be lucky to make $32,000 my 1st yr

I run hard and have a Awsome DM hardly every wait on loads and bug the #### out of then until I get 1 or I call DM and he gets me 1 in minutes,I ve ran 3600 miles a week and I love it and want more but usually out of hos by then.

Best thing to do get in good with ur DM and don't do confront zones it limits your availability and my DM offered me Great Lakes Reganal and said it only get 2200 to 2500 a week I said no way I drive
3000 or more some weeks just ecause u get a load u have to babysit for a day or 2 ask DM to Tcall does not always work though.

 

Not to steal your thred, but when you go to swift school do you start getting paid the first week there ? or do you mean once you get with a trainer you start getting paid ?

I was out of Orientation on Wedsday and left Thursday but it can take longer specially if u request a non smoker mentor but most of my oreintation left Wedsday or Thursday and the rest were suppose to leave Friday but I was already gone so not sure if they did.

Remember when u get out there this is no picnic job seems easy it is.but it's. Very stressful at times and is really hard being gone that long away from home it was hard on me was sure I would make it but I have a wife n kids if you have no family yet it's much easier. Good luck

 

Ya I have a wife and kids ,but the kids are grown. One more question So how long are you in school with out pay ? three weeks or longer ? Thanks for the info.

 

18 days! In Phoenix you graduate on Friday and show up Monday for orientation.

 

According to Swift's own financial filings in recent times (Swift is NYSE traded and public company, SWFT), they had to cut wages due to economic environment at the time, and I don't believe the higher pay rates have been restored. So, the pay scale you reference in the url is way outdated.

 

The pay scale cuts was referring to operations not drivers. That link is old but fine.
If anyone is wondering your training pay doesn't start until your on with a mentor. If your flatbed you get payed $100.00 for phase 1 class and then you go with a mentor.
As of yesterday if your going flatbed, you will do 120hrs first with a van mentor and your last 120hrs with a flatbed mentor. Good luck to all the new recruits. Have fun and be safe. If you dont get along with your mentor, talk about it. Communicate. Thats my advice.
