2012 Mack Pinnacle set back axle trucks.

    Tell me about them. I have been searching here and am not hearing good things. One of our drivers drove one for a 500 mile trip. He liked it a lot compared the the crappy Kenworths we have. It got 6.1 mpg. What are the pros and cons?

    I am running two new 2013 pinnacle's. So far there have been no problems but I have only had them for a month now. I would say they are more comfortable and quieter then 2011 KW T800s that I have some experience. So far I have they have been averaging over 5.5mpg, they are loaded to 63.5 metric tonnes half the time so fuel economy will never be good. My drivers haven't made any complaints about them even though one was initially skeptical about the M-drive. However the jake is weaker than I would like.

    Y2K, how long have you been driving it, how many miles does it have so far and what does your mpg seem to average?

    Had it (along with dayshift driver) about a month now I guess,just hit 14,000 miles last night.
    I don't pay any attention to mileage,company rig company fuel but it seems like I put less in at the end of my shift than the Vision I was driving with an autoshift 10 speed,this truck has the Allison 6 speed automatic.
    Could be I just haven't been doing quite as many miles as last month though,not sure.
    Sorry not much help I know,I can say it rides nice,the floor doesn't get hot like my old truck,has a much better seat,the disc brakes are great! and it's the easiest thing to drive you could ask for.
    It does have a few quirks I don't care for,it cuts throttle and applies brakes if it thinks I'm cornering too fast,rather unnerving when that happens.
    Steering seems to wander a bit,might be me just not used to it being so tight though.
    Headlights will reach out and touch someone so I get flashed all the time even on low beam,high beam will light up another planet and that's real nice on deserted back roads.
    I'm sure the computer has a tattle tale built in to tell the company when I've misbehaved,it does all sorts of things,even tells me when the wiper fluid is getting low.
    I'll check the diagnostics and see what my average mpg has been and post up,it's in there but be advised I run over 100,000 lbs most of the time when I'm loaded and I run a lot of 2 lane back roads and a lot of big hills in the mountains here in WA getting to lumber mills so a freight guy running mostly interstates would do a lot better I'm sure.

    That's that electronic stability control BS that the government and certain "safety" groups are trying to get mandated onto all new trucks....they might have been successful in that endeavor (I haven't really followed that issue too closely). I've heard company drivers crying about their trucks doing the same thing...and they are driving Petercars, Cornbinders, and Freightshakers, so it isn't just a Mack thing.

    Looks like we've been getting about 5.3mpg,running governed at 62mph w/allison 6 spd auto, average load is 100,000lbs gross and doing a lot of two lane mountain roads so not too bad I guess.
