    Rolls canardly here;
I just got up and running on 3126 Cat after spending $14,000 for new short block and install and new injectors and pump.
Thought all was well; but noticed I had to top off coolant bottle more and more frequently.
Long story short - I bled the air tank and about a gallon of anti-freeze came out!!
Piss me off!! Is there no bottom to this money pit?

I went to dealer and got a gasket for the air pump, just about the last thing that isn't new or rebuilt after 186,000 miles.
If this was a car they would have crushed it by now!!!!

Any body have experience like this before? Looks pretty straight forward to change air pump head gasket.
My god; I hope its not engine head gasket already, just 3,500 miles since done.

I should add; the blowoff poppet valve on the tank was slightly malfunctioning and would bleed down totally after a run.
Don't know if pressure differential from coolant lines to air pump and bled-down tank with no pressure would be a factor??
Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

The only place that coolant can be introduced to the air system is at the compressor. Change the compressor or the compressor head gasket and all should be good. It is probably just as cheap to buy the reman compressor than to buy the gasket and the labor to do the repair. Also when you do the reman there will be a warranty on the compressor.

tanks answer is dead on the money. i saw an 05 volvo with the volvo engine come in for service where i drove last year. the driver kept complaining about it using coolant, but did not see a leak. the first thing the mechanic did was pull off the driver fairing and opened all 3 air tanks. i bet it dumped 5 gallons of coolant out in the shop floor.

what made this even more humorous was the driver bragged to everyone that he drained his tanks on a bi-weekly basis to prevent brake problems. yeah ok. whatever.

Make sure to replace your air drier cartridge at the same time you replace the compressor.

Save money: Don't buy C7/3126. THey last 200-300k if you're lucky.

    Now he tells me!!
I could have bought a new car for what I put into this truck installing a new engine.
I've seen 'em for sale for 61 thou; This is a M-2 2004 Freightliner Rollback w/ Chevron steel bed.
I paid 20 with a bad cyl. and put 14 in it; so I am not under water on it - Yet.
Dont ever say what else - you'll find out what else!

the head gasket may or may not be availible. I put one on the other day gasket was 6.80 us dollars. Cheep repair you will have to drain coolant first. pretty striaght forward job though.

    Rolls Canardly here;
I installed gasket and there was no gasket on air pump, it was sealing metal to metal.
Both surfaces had a blanchard ground finish and were super flat, but developed leak.
All is well as I also replaced blowoff valve on tank.

I wanted to post this as a heads up for anyone with a 3126 motor that develops a miss.
After this was originally posted I started having electrical miss in #4 cyl.
My case easy fix happened to be pushing in on the plug to computer on driver side of block.

It is held in w/screw and I then tightened about 3/4 turn and problem solved.
Even was able to cancel appointment with Dealer for their fixing it!!!

    Rolls Canardly here,
I now have 4,200 miles on this motor and it is running beautifully, (can't believe I am saying that,) Air pump issue solved; miss from computer plug solved, now another issue raises its ugly head.

Every time I go to start with the key, I have to put in neutral and jump solenoid under hood (right beneath clutch cylinder on firewall) with a wrench. I did try it once with a charger on the batteries and it worked normally with key. Its a minor pain; but I was wondering if it is an indication I need new batteries?

I am beginning to notice a pattern here, make ten dollars, spend nine on truck.

Am I just working for Exxon and Freightliner?

Read an article this mornings web brousing in Natural News dot com (read it yourself-NOW) that said "Homeland Security program promotes welfare for new American immigrants: Come and get some handouts!

Who are these idiots pissing my hard earned tax dollars away like this? WOW!

    Happy Motoring,
    Rolls Canardly
