Why don't they like the Volvos they bought? I haven't met a driver with one yet who had any complaints at all. But while we're on the subject, maybe I should ask Cyanide why Heniff is phasing their Volvos out.

I know our shop guys hate them and they are some of the best mechanics in the company. We never got any in High Point.

With the exception of the DPF, my understanding is that our Volvos here have been fairly reliable. Seems Bob (Heniff Jr.) just got a better deal with Peterbilt during our last equipment bid.
Personally I prefer the Volvo, even though the Pete has more interior space in the sleeper. But when it comes to safety, I think Volvo owns the rights to that department lol.....Last edited: Sep 12, 2012

9/13-9/15
Took Wed off and got a N Chicago dedicated run to finish up the week. Should make it back Saturday and will be in town for the Panther-Saints game. Hopefully I can get another dedicated run next week since I am taking Thurs and Friday off. -
9/16
Headed out to Charlotte in a few minutes with my wife to see if Cam Newton can play a little better against the Saints. I have Monday off and am only doing 1 run next week. Its about a 900 mile round trip up to Craemer Pa. Drive up there and go to bed at the unloading spot. Wake up the next morning, customer unload, drive back. Piece of cake. Going to spend a long weekend in the mountains after that.Cyanide Thanks this. -
9/20-27
Had a great long weekend in the Virginia mountains. I highly recommend the Virginia Creeper Trail bike ride. My fat ### was able to do a 17 mile bike ride on an old railroad bed. It ran next to a white water river most of the way with 10-15 bridges. We rented beach style cruiser bikes with tractor size seats in Damascus Va. For about $20 each(bike rental included) they drove us up to the top of the mountain. Its down hill the whole way with a couple of places to stop and eat/drink along the way. I live 100 miles from this place but have never done this trip before. It will be something I will do as a day trip for many years to come.
Monday I headed out with a dedicated Plaquemine La out and back load. Got back Wednesday around 15:00. Delivered the load Thursday at 6:30 AM and am off until Sat or Sunday. High Point is having a truck rodeo Saturday and no domiciled drivers are dispatched out until after it is over. That kind of sucks for me but I understand the politics of it. At least they gave me a good load on the front end. Hopefully I will get something out Sunday to help the bottom line. I am enjoying the time off though and really can't complain. My son is coming home from college for the weekend.
Fridays check finishes up the 3rd quarter. Even though this was my weakest quarter of the year it still totaled $15,337. I have had 64 days home through 3 quarters which is a little less than in years past. I define a day home as waking up and going to bed at home running 0 miles that day. Getting in Saturday morning and leaving Monday night would count as 1 home day in my book even if I got to spend lots of time at home after coming in and before going out.
Hopefully I can get out west again in the 4th quarter.Last edited: Sep 28, 2012

How do you like those dedicated runs? I think I was at the right place at the right time. It appears I am staying on the dedicated runs unless it gets slow then I imagine I will make some systems runs to stay busy. I have no complaints though. I make 4-5 runs a week then off on the weekends 99% of the time. It's a pretty sweet deal.

They are great. We have 9-10 different ones out of High Point all out and back. They rotate us around on them and you usually run them when you request home time. Some of our guys run them exclusively. The home time is good and the equipment is generally better maintained that what floats around the system. They run only virgin rubber on the trailers, no recaps. I told them I want to run a variety of stuff so I get some system loads mixed in.
Got one this week delivering in New Haven CT Monday morning. Paying some of my Northeast dues this week after a couple of gravy dedicated runs. Still have my California fire extinguisher mounted so maybe I can pick up something out west in October.rubberducky68 Thanks this. -
Sounds pretty much like the same deal here in Morrow. There is 3 or 4 of us that run dedicated and they rotate us around. There are four places that we go to that I know of but I have just been running two of them for now. One of them I will have to ride with another driver so he can show me a few things at one place where you have to do it all. The places I go now hook up on their end so I only have to hook up two air hoses on my end and hand them the product hoses. Trailers have virgin rubber as well. Most of them are in good shape but there have been a couple that could use some work. I have written those up as I come across them.
I feel for you having to go up in the North East...uggh! I think I would rather slit my wrists

The wife and I were just discussing going off for a long weekend in October. Our usual spot is Asheville, bit now you've got me thinking.
