Just got my CDL hard copy in the mail today, so it's off to Tunnel Hill on Wednesday.

A guy in my school class wants to team, but then he had to have his appendix removed last weekend...probably just going to wait for him to finish with his trainer 'cause I'm just a couple weeks ahead.

Hello all, let the games begin! Drove to Tunnel Hill wed. for our upgrade on thursday, all went very smooth (except my name wasn't on the list at the hotel) and best of all, we passed! yee-ha! We we're able to get a truck asigned out of Lexington which is great being its only an hour from home so we were able to drive our car back instead of leaving it at Tunnel Hill. Going to Lexington today to have the inverter installed and hopefully get permission to take the truck home and put it together. There's no way that we can take a trailer home (no room), so they told us our FM would help find suitable parking for our hometime. Thanx to you all for the info we have gathered from the forum! It's been a great help. Im sure we'll have more questions. We trained on a dedicated account and every day was the same as the day before, same BOL's, destination's, drop & hook and deadhead back to the DC. So....we have very little experience with different shipping scenerios.
Oh well, wish us luck & again thanx!

Congrats, I don't know how your FM will know the area around your house better than you. If you are only an hour from Lexington, that is probably where you will usually drop your empty to bobtail home. If there is a local truck stop, you can usually make deal with them to drop. We bought a kingpin lock and drop at a truckstop 5 miles from home. If they are full we pay 10 bucks a day to store it there. They never charge us.

Yeah, I would just drop at Lex and bobtail home if you can park a bobtail there. None of my FM's have ever asked me where I park or anything.

Thanks, that sounds like the way to go, wasn't sure how far they would let us bobtail home. We have a mom & pop truckstop about 20 miles from home, think i'll contact them and try to work a deal.

Thanks vinsanity, no problem getting the bobtail home, (very winding climbing road) just no room for the rest of the rig. However, don't sound like its gonna be an issue.

    congrats

we live about 70 miles from nashville and when we were company drivers we had to bobtail home, usx would find a cust that needed a trailer and we would drop it on the way home, sometimes as much 200 miles from the house..

I always try to stay positive (specially since it seems to piss some people off :biggrin_25525:) but we are a bit frustrated right now with the reefer board. We are sitting a LOT and it is killing us. It just seems like they are not very organized. We delivered in West Sacramento early Thursday morning and then sat waiting for a preassign for a couple of hours. Then we were told to drive empty to colton and pick up a loaded trailer there at the terminal for delivery Friday morning. Picked it up and headed out for two stops 80 miles away, after empty they told us to drive up to the Pilot in Salinas for a mystery pickup on Saturday. They could not tell us where or when. Got to Salinas and waited until about 1100 today before they changed the destination to Orlando Florida and then ten minutes later changed it again back to Baltimore MD and now we needed to drive 150 miles South to Santa Maria for our first pickup with a second stop in Santa Paula 100 miles South of there. Of course we get to Santa Maria and here we sit waiting to get loaded with no idea when that will happen.

Three days and a total of just under 900 miles. That is about a thousand dollars we could have made and didn't. Ever since Phyllis moved from Fleet Manager to Load Planner, our income has plummeted. I suspect this will be our last reefer load. Going back to dry van if we can. Man I miss Phyllis. If we got paid more for reefer it might make up for it. But we don't, so it won't.

The runs are awesome once you get moving 2500 to 3000 miles. I cannot remember the last legitimate 6000 mile week. (we have had 6000 to 7000 paydays but that was loads that carried over the payday) We were rocking out of hometime until the wheels came off on Thursday morning.

    Buffalo644 Thanks this.

Sorry to hear Phyllis has moved on. She was pretty awesome. Still, sitting is just the nature of the reefer business. It was way too much sitting for me.

I think the problem with reefer is they use outside brokers. That just adds one more link in the communication chain to break.

NOW is the time to get back on dry van anyways. If I was still teaming I would stay out until Christmas.
