No Employment History

Hello guys, first post, I was hoping I could get your opinions on my situation. I learned that a trucking company is required by the federal government to request an applicant's 10 year employment history as a requirement of hiring. In my case, I haven't been employed for the past 10 years, so my employment history is "no employment for the past 10 years". Would this disqualify me from consideration for being hired you think? Actually, for the past 20 years I've been living off my own funds from a windfall. Thanks.

 

Thanks Fellas, but would a trucking company requesting my 10 year employment history and learning that my history is "no employment" cover the company as far as the government regulation is concerned? Then if a company didn't want to hire me it would be their own discretion and not a problem with the federal mandate? My actual employment history is "no employment".

This is the actual FMCSA regulation:

Notification of previous employment:
All employers shall request and all person's applying for employment as a commercial motor vehicle operator shall provide, employment history information for the 10 years preceding the date the application is submitted. The request shall be made at the time of application for employment.

It doesn't say specifically that an applicant needed to be employed, just that the 10 year employment history has to be obtained. My employment history is "no employment". Thanks.

 

Thanks Pete, actually I was a dependent on my mother's tax returns until 2007 (when she passed away). I've only started filing on my own since 2008. Would you happen to know if the IRS can provide past tax returns? Thanks again. Much appreciated.

I'm 57. I thought it would be really "fishy" if I tried to pass myself off as a self-employed stock trader. I did trade the market, but it was just my own portfolio so it wasn't really employment. Here I am being 100% honest and that might be seen as "fishy". It looks like I'm caught between a rock and a hard place. Thanks.
