you can get a free flow muffler from ryder or truck pro for about 1/2 of what p.p. is asking.

I am in the market for another truck. I currently have a 3406E and a C12 and absolutely love em both. I have been lookin at 2 different engines to upgrade with, the C15 and the C13. I owned a C15 before and had good luck with it, but hard on fuel cause of the truck it was in (W9L w/ 3.25 gears). I have heard that these C13s dont make it to a million miles before needing extensive work...is this true? What would be the morw fuel efficient engine hauling flatbed at 80k lbs most of the time??

My 379 came out of a flatbed fleet. It has the CAT ID in it and lifetime avg was 6.08mpg when I got it. They do a lot of rebuilds of their C13s at around 750K to 850K. Personally, I'd buy a C13 again now that this one is fixed and tuned up. It was rebuilt about 175,000 miles ago and had a new head about 125,000 miles ago. It now has about 920,000 on it.
I think that what your goals are will determine what engine you should choose. If you're willing to run slower then a smaller engine will get the job done and burn less fuel. If you want to run faster you probably need the 15 liter engine but forget about getting decent fuel mileage. My C13 is pulling a DD/RGN trailer and they always lose at least 1/2mpg from a flatbed or SD and he's averaging 6.73MPG at 64MPH which is 1400RPM. Cats are RPM sensitive. The C15 needs to run at 1300 to 1350RPM to get good mileage but the faster you run the more rolling and wind resistance you have to overcome.

This former fuel hog is now up to an overall average of 7MPG! By far the best money I ever spent! EVERYONE who has one should get the tune done by ROBSREDFORD or Mr Haney.
