I also had a surprise at a car dealership when the owner told me it doesn't make a difference. Seems like many in the "civilian" world aren't as educated as they think in regard to nitrogen-filled tires.aiwiron Thanks this.

As far as truck tires, no thanks I would do a monitoring or inflation system. Unless they put nitrogen in the tire in a vaccume chamber it still has oxygen in it, so you will still have some variance.
-
This is true crb. There will always be a % of oxygen, however all of the studies done on this matter especially on commercial truck tires shows that if you have at least 95% nitrogen you will realize significant savings in fuel and tire life. Of course the higher the percentage the better. I am guessing that you would have to fill and purge the tire several times to realize the higher range percentages.

you would see the same benefits from a tire inflation or monitoring system plus you may have a heads up of a tire problem (nail, screw, bad valve stem, etc). Saving a tire from blowing because you catch an issue early can save big dollars. There is also the availbility issue, nitrogen truck tire filling stations are harder to find. I don't run nitrogen in my car tires either. I check my care tires if they arrears low, have tire pressure monitoring, and my ase certified mechanic looks them over and sticks them every 90 days. I would consider nitrogen for my other tires (motorcycle, atv, lawnmower, etc) as these items sit longer periods.

Spray a little ether in there and burn off the oxygen. Then you have N2 left plus traces of other gasses. This would need to be performed at full pressure. Please video for us if you try.

It's hard enough to find an air hose let alone nitrogen.

That's so true.
Rig up an air fitting on your truck, then you'll always have air in a pinch. -
I use one that I connect to the trailer air lines.

The nitrogen thing is just a scam. All tires are porous and loose air. Nitrogen molecules are larger and escape thru the rubber slower, thats the only advantage, but it does still escape and needs to be replenished. The air we breath is 78% nitrogen. When you pay to have it installed, you are really just paying to have them check your tire pressures. No tire shop is goi g to say no or charge you for checking your pressures, scamming you into nitrogen is just their way of getting you to come back and pay for checking your pressures.
