After buying $300.00 of fuel they charged $1.68 for a refill in my own cup for coffee. That what got me interested in the truckers forum. To see what other drivers have to say.
I can not help but feel or think that this is a little bit much, especially sence the truck stop down the road charges .86 cents for the same cup. Next time I go thru Tulsa I know where I'll buy my fuel. The J will not get this sell no more
Cost of coffee

Since when is free stuff a reward for purchasing something? That's what they are there for, to sell.. not give handouts.
-
Depends on how you look at it--wasn't all that long ago-NO t/s charged for coffee if you fueled--just a perk-then they all started the rewards card nonsense--some good some not--While i am not going to get into a p***** contest here--IMHO--most of the chains have gotten way out of hand when it comes to their pricing across the board--but they are running a business and they can/will charge whatever they feel the market will bear. But as stated above--when it comes to refills--it boggles my mind they have the ordasity to sell you their own refill cup for 8-9 bucks then charge you more to refill their cup--than they charge for a large cup of coffee in a single use cup! Like the above posters says--they wont get my biz anymore either! Also for what it is worth--most of the Wilco/Hess now have Dunkin Donuts coffee--and they keep it fresh--refills only a buck(plus tax)
just my $.02Taildragon and Raiderfanatic Thank this. -
Here in Louisiana it's called "Lagniappe"
From Websters Dictionary:
[h=2]la·gniappe[/h] noun \ˈlan-ˌyap, lan-ˈ\
[h=2]Definition of LAGNIAPPE[/h]: a small gift given a customer by a merchant at the time of a purchase; broadly : something given or obtained gratuitously or by way of good measure
Pronounced: Lan yap
Back in the old days, a store owner would usually throw a "lagniappe" (little something extra), in your bag at check out. Sometimes if you asked for 5 lb of flour, the merchant would usually make another small dip from the flour barrel to show his appreciation.
Just as I (owner of a small part time mobile DJ service) will give trinkets such as Coozies or "can coolers", a business card magnet or something to clients or other prospective clients at weddings, birthday parties, class reunions etc to show my appreciation for hiring me to play music at their event. Its just a "lagniappe" to show my appreciation in case they have other events such as anniversaries or company Christmas parties where they may call me for those events as well. Its just a good gesture/thanks you/ I appreciate you kinda thing... please come back to see us. -
I see your new here so maybe you don't know but, at most major truck stops you can get "rewards cards" from them that you can use for free stuff. For example, I usually buy at Loves, so, I have a Loves rewards card & each time I fuel up, I use my rewards card & get 1 point (or 1 penny) per gallon of fuel that I buy. Just to note, 1 point = 1 penny. While it may not seem like much, it does add up. Currently, I have around 12,000 points which = to $120.00 that I can spend in loves for anything they sell. I usually buy work gloves, cb parts, antenna's, connections, etc.
You also get additional perks like free refills on coffee, soft drinks or showers etc that doesn't come out of your points... Its just extra. So, in short, if you'll pick up a rewards card at one or all of the major truck stops like Loves, Flying J, Petro etc, you can get those perks or "thank you" extra's. -
And where did you see or read free hand out. I did not ask for a free hand out. My point was that i feel that 1$1.68 for a cup of coffee is a bit to much sence i found that down the road is $.86 cents
jonboy29 Thanks this. -
300 gals and all he wants is a splash of crappy coffee.
its not like he's asking for a grande mocha double caramel with soy frosting and a flavour shot??????
back in the olden days, we had perk cards, and stamps for store purchases or showers
a free coffee used to be the norm, now its the exception.
bring back the "Lagniappe"HwyPrsnr Thanks this. -
if I remember correctly, Pilot, (the Walmart of t/s) , started this whole think . it's greed pure and simple.
and to the poster that says it's a business and they have the right. they sure do . they have the right to be greedy and it is wrong ! it's part of the problem with people today. I want mine and the heck with everybody else -
Truckers need fuel and coffee and if necessary will pay dearly for both and they know it.

as a business they can what they want and as a customer i can choose not to buy from a business that doesn,t treat me fair.
