I had to run my cb to a cig lighter when i drove for roehl. It would turn off if the key was off. Apu wouldnt run with key on either.

I agree and I think most time it probably would be but I just don't want to get in the middle of no where and not be able to have a back up should something happen. AJC

For what it's worth...The 2nd time we broke down in July, we were in eastern Utah on I70....We didn't have service on our cell phone or the Qualcomm. If we hadn't been able to get the truck started again, we would have had to rely on the cb. Although it doesn't happen often, not having some kind of service, it can happen.

I have one, I don't mind it. I like listening to drivers fight each other or speak about politics. Anyways a amazing conversation.. politics.. haha.

the trucks are pre-wired with antennas and a hot pigtail in whatever cubbyhole the CB goes into. anything else you need is sold in any truck stop. two wire nuts and one minute is all it takes to install a CB.

i have an old one i got for free. they're useful for only two real issues. first, some customers like to talk to you over a specific channel, and they can tell you when it's your turn on the dock without having to come get you. and on the road, it's useful to find out why traffic looks like its stopping up there.

i've been saved a number of times by finding out about highway closures up ahead from drivers on the other side, and then making detours around them..

plus, if it wasn't for the CB i'd never keep my equipment, because it's always other drivers who tell me that my lockers are open and stuff is falling out.

This is an issue of debate amongst some drivers. I personally would never be without a cb radio. Even if you don't always have it on, it is a useful tool.
