As per the FMCSA you need 3 years of employment history if you have no prior truck driving jobs, 10 years if you have prior experience, I only listed 3 years and had zero problems

Good for you Sir, but in your favor you did work for 32 years before you took off 2 years of well deserved rest time. Me, I've seen very little work the past 20 years, just pursued hobbies, and worked the stock market too. I'm afraid it's going to be a tougher sell for me :biggrin_255:, to say the least, but I honestly don't see where I've done anything wrong. Heck, it's probably something a lot of people would love to do (pursue their hobbies full time). The problem I have is trying to document this lifestyle to satisfy a trucking company, the government (talk about overreach), and the company's insurance company.

BTW, I was wondering if your trucking company needed documentation for the two years you took off? Thanks.

Why don't you give Swift, CRST, or CR England a call. See what they say about you not having an employment history. You can't put down work history if you didn't work. Most will think you are some ex con or something, but they will run your criminal history anyway. Or just lazy and this industry is already full of lazy people.

Another thing is why don't u just get some regular gig while you are waiting.

Thanks for the reply. I'm definitely going to give it a shot. Yeah, my background is clean (criminal and traffic) plus I haven't smoked pot in years. Don't drink or use hard drugs either.

I know my employment history will look bad and leave me open to assumptions that aren't necessarily true. I did work hard at everything I did, the stock market and my hobbies, it's just that people assume that hard work only happens in a traditional job. I bet there's plenty of examples of applicants with a proper work history who are lazy, yet I'm not lazy at all with my blank history. In fact I don't think a trucking company could find a better applicant than myself. It would take an insightful intelligent recruiter to realize that though.

    Thanks again.

    Dinomite Thanks this.

No Disrespect ...... But knowing someone didn't work for 20+ yrs because they had the money to just play around is not going to be a selling point even if you apply at McD..
Most employers will see that as lazy and figure you wont last 6 months doing a real job.. Now whether that is true or not really isn't the issue ,its preception ...

.. Get a job, ANY job and stick with it for awhile preferably 3 yrs worth from our understanding, Then you will be ready to enter the world of trucking ..I did not say any of this to offend you .... I would not give you the advice to lie...that would be the fastest way to end your trucking career IMO.. Best of luck to you...

My wife was a stay at home mom for the past 12 yrs and she just took a job working at a pre-school.. not her dream job, But she is more than qualified :) she is doing this all so when our teens graduate she has a actual work history outside of the home..and then we will be ready to go to school and enter the trucking lifestyle...

Thanks for your reply, I've since decided to move to Elkhart, Indiana, buy a RAM 3500 Dually, and haul RVs.
