Welcome Dr. Daliah - love catching your show :D

My husband and I have had GBS (RNY) and are now healthier than we have been in YEARS... however due to a long story, we have no health insurance, but need to get labs drawn (vit deficiency testing)... we got the order, but when we went to the lab the cost was going to be over a couple THOUSAND dollars... do you know of any place that wouldn't charge us quite so much?

Hi LadyK!!!! The three labs we most commonly use in our area (Las Vegas) is Quest, LabCorp and CPL. CPL by far has the least expensive rate when they give a "cash discount". Here's their link to see if they are located in your area. http://cpllabs.com/locations/patient-service-centers.aspx

    Hello Doctor Daliah,
I have a question for you. I am pretty worried about DVt. As you know our job requires us to sit for long hours and I would like to stay healthy as long as I can. No health = no work = no $. I found this device online and I am wondering if you know about it. Is it a scam or do you think it would actually help with preventing DVT? I am thinking about buying it. Please let me know what you think.

Hmmm, I wish I had listeners who had some positive feedback about the product. It sounds nice, however, true DVT prevention includes active movement. You are 100% correct about truckers being at risk for DVT due to long driving hours. So we recommend every few hours taking a quick stop, get out, and walk around a bit. And avoiding smoking is crucial. Thanks for link. I'll look into it. :)

I quit smoking 12 years ago using the nicotine inhaler. I was in a hospital trial (University of Nebraska Medical Center), and cut down gradually and finally quit. I think a person has to want to quit, has to commit himself to it, and really work hard at it. Nicotine inhalers, whether they have fake smoke effects or not, act as a placebo while the lungs heal from all that tar and nicotine. Believe me, I was hacking up yellow stuff for a year. Thought I would die, but did not give up. After 10 years I was officially a "non-smoker" again.
