I had a roll over accident in Indiana four (4) years ago. I'm about to be laid off from Goodyear in a few weeks. Can I get back in a truck? If yes, who is a good training company to get started with?

I really want to do it right this time. I learned a hard lesson and was never properly trained when I last drove a truck. Now! having said that, i'm not blaming anyone else. It was all my fault. I could have and should have stayed with my trainer for more than a week.

IF I POSTED THIS IN THE WRONG PLACE I'M SORRY!!

    Thanks,

    2nd Chance

Probably not. If you haven't driven for 4 years you would be required to do a refresher course but I would call around to some of the bottom feeding companies like CR England and Swift and see if they would accept you if they say no. You can pretty much hang it up for another year. Never hurts to try but get on a phone and start talking to recruiters to be for sure.

You think they will hire me with a four year old roll over? I don't mind going through the refresher course

A lot probably depends on how the former employer will respond to an employment verification and on what terms you left (or let go) Frankly, with all of the military vets hitting the streets looking for jobs and the large numbers of other out-of-work people with clean records, it will probably be tough but I would not give up before doing as mentioned above. Look at Schneider and Swift, Knight and others. Be honest on your app and see what happens. You will probably need treated as a completely non-experienced driver in any possible CDL driver hiring scenario. Good luck.

Actually I don't think they will hire you. But you have to get on the phone and do the leg work you never know. You may get a bite. I know a friend of mine I went to orientation went years ago had a rollover and nobody would hire him, but that was because it was recent. Don't know if he ever got back in a truck. The amount of damage you caused and such is probably enough that nobody would allow you except for those who are self insured. Not sure if it was your fault or not but if you know it wasn't your fault you should be able to explain. But like Texan said. This industry is flooded with newbies and sure they will pass on your app. But don't sit on the internet listening to advice. Get on the phone and make some calls or do some online apps. All they can say is no. They hire people with dwi's and felonies so maybe u can but it will be the lowest and crappiest carrier there is. Probably would do better in another industry.

I will predict that you will have to start with a bottom feeder for less than average wages because of the accident. The cost of insurance is just too high for most companies to bother with you as well as the number of applicants on file versus the overall economy. If you are dead set on getting in the truck again your going to have to suck it up big time to do so.

Well guys, i had a great Leased Purchase (LP) Flatbed and Pneumatic Tanker Gig in Florida. It's probably the best one in the Country. Fuel @ $1.99 a gallon because it is owned by a huge company that i dont want to mention. On july this year, in a private rail road, where a rail road arms ant intermitent red lights are not required, i missed the stop and happen to look at my right and a train backing almost killed me, i accelerated and it hit the tanker in the middle. Lost the tractor, lots of sleeper fiberglass damage on the tracks(totaled loss) and the trailer. The tractor and the product cleanup was $70.000. They gave me a ticket. Went to court. An old timer trucker tol me years ago, always go and fight the ticket in court. Last monday went and got cero points, pleaded no contest. Got hired today to pull Port containers. Got my tractor since i have good credit, did not used my credit on the lp. So i'll be buying my schneider truck in Atlanta next week if the good lord wants. The reason for my story is to let 2nd Chance know that it is possible to get hired. Now i got 7 years driving but still, Companies are hiring Dui's in 3 years, Felonies in 3 years, it used to be for both 10 years. Now if you go to a Company that keeps you out a month at a time, they will work with you and after a year, you can look for somthing better. Ther's a shortage a drivers so yes, theres plenty of oportunities.

Rollovers are almost a certain DQ for life in a majority of companies.

There is not a shortage of drivers. Now there is a shortage of drivers who are getting tired of taking crap from companies. Good luck finding a parking spot after 10pm. There are also a bunch of people getting disqualified for sleep apnea, weight, and bad driving records. But all the newbies coming in should take care of that.

I do hope the hand gets a job, but working for a bottom feeding company and being treated like crap because they know you can't go nowhere else is not worth it. Especially when you have to come out of your own pocket for an expensive refresher course.

Keep us notified if you get a gig and like the man said. With the Good Lord. Anything is possible.
