1. Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

I got a question?

quite different to say the least than driving in any kind of traffic, especially cities with all the idiots out there. I'm glad you seem like you know what you want and have your head screwed on straight. Just keep doing what you're doing and get your CDL . When you turn 21 you'll have plenty of options. I do believe ( but i'm not 100% sure) that you can drive intrastate if you're under 21. Check with your local police dept. or go online to your states MVD website . Also ,go to your local MVD office and ask them. The clerk may not know the answer but might be able to point you in the right direction. Good luck and drive safe.

I'm pretty sure it's actually federal law that requires you to be 21 do drive interstate, and most states require you be 18 to get a CDL. I can't guarantee that every state lets you drive at 18 (intrastate), but I doubt there are many (if any) that require you be 21.

Have had similar experiences here... pay a farmer to move something that regular carriers wont... seems like a win win situation to me!

Thanks alot guys this is helping me with my options i read Indiana's regulations on the whole deal. And they say under 21 with a "commercial" truck you have to stay in the state line and thats with the CDL permit. I mean i just need this "experience" which is a fancy word for mistakes. and all the dump truckers are union around here

hey john deere ... i am not a recuiter at all just a country boy that was raise in the real world of the great state of PA !!! here is the start of a long post ,just a gut feeling!.. but my two close great uncles drove trucks , and i would go with them growing up and one begain a dump truck/back hoe/dozer outfit well i loved the heavy machiery enough to want to learn to operate them -always a fan of tonka trucks so my parents say ... and i did have alot of them.

but check out NAVY SEABEES ..i have been in over 6 years NEVERY BEEN ON A BOAT!!! if you are like my bother and don'tbelieve me check out the air force red horse ....ANY way there is a chance to become the BEST FIGHTING FORCE of the navy BUT at the same time operate heavy machery including tractor trailers!! the reason i am going on like a preacher is because i did it ... joined in 2001 18years old i took a navy drivers test in the tractor trailer and have been driving since i was 18 on the high ways of cali hualing a D& cat dozer hanging off 3ft each side of the drop neck!! , thailand, kuwait, iraq, 3,000 gallons of hazmat/and 1.4 ,1.3,1.2,1.1.explodives in washington state, all without state CDL! military is exempt of state laws so you maybe 18 an in a trator driving accross the U>S>! skipping wiegh stations too!

best part of it is just this last month is the navy paid for my CDL and hazmat i am now ...class A,double/triples, tanks, bus all but school buses . and all my tiem driving in the navy counts ! i just appilied at a big Co. for a part time job for a class A job i am still in the navy but love to drive and i will get my change to since it is in the bag saying you a or were has HUGE benifts talk to some one in the WW2 or vietnam, marines love the bees , and the real shipp going navy wish they know of us, but if you are fresh out of high shcool and want to operate heavy machinery look into the navy seabees since 1941 we have history of building and without operaters you would have no building! give it a try and feel free to ask questions i am here. -arick -EO2
