See that's the bs that's frustrating...not knowing for sure like you said if they push back the compliance dates. There is another good point that there are dpf systems that run around $3k...thats not bad.
Well, I think I might just go with everyone else...meaning...get an 07 T600 and drive. IF and WHEN the carb comes to play...either spend some dough on the upgrade or stay out of cali...
Just curious though, will MPG increase if I were to get an 07 T600 and do an EGR delete?
thanks -
AMEN TO THAT!!!
Do NOT try to retro fit an 07 with DPF. If you only have one truck you are OK with pre 1998 engines until 2016. My advice would be to get an older well maintained truck that you can run till 2016 and SAVE your paychecks so you can put 50% down on a new 2016 truck in 3 years. Think how nice it would be to drive a new truck with a $1200 payment.alien4fish and Bad Monkey Thank this. -
I have been looking around here in Washington state to see who would do those retrofit and I can't seem to locate one independent shop....can you pass the info on the $3k system....that might be the way to go...just get a pre-dpf and run it till i can't....
yeah, they could push back the compliance date...its just soo frustrating...not knowing...
My main concern was getting into a descent truck for around 45-50k and then have to spend another 15k on retrofit...I guess if there are less expensive ones, thats the way to go... -
Most shops in California quit doing the DPF install because they got tired of being sued when engines started blowing up after 10,000 miles. The ARB website lists about a hundred phone numbers so I called about 10 and NONE of them will do them anymore.
That should be a hint about the technology.harmin5288 Thanks this. -
Haaaaaa......why are they messing with the industry soo much...

I totally agree. I also have a 2009 with dpf only cat engine. All I will add is if you go this route you better be darn good at making lemonade and be very happy if you can achieve 6 mpg. The def and dpf system works far better and typically you will see higher mpg. Of course, you could always buy an 07 or older, a dpf off a wrecked truck, gut the insides and install .................harmin5288 Thanks this.

The day they mandate I have that garbage, I'll run the other 47.. Plenty of money to be made outside Cali
DrtyDiesel and harmin5288 Thank this. -
At the risk of sounding ignorant......
Why not set up your truck with a bypass? Run your DPF in CA and bypass it when you leave the state?Last edited: Oct 7, 2012
