I am a wannabe who is currently a high school senior. For reference, I am a female (I bet it's kind of obvious, cats, you know? :biggrin_2559:) which appears to really be a minority in this industry. I've been considering trucking since about, oh... 7th grade. My best friend's dad was a truck driver, and I thought it was really cool. I've been seriously considering becoming a trucker for the past 2 years. I've been browsing on this forum every now and then for the past couple months, and I figured it was time to get an account so I can ask questions and such. This forum is such a wealth of knowledge, it'd be stupid to not use it! :biggrin_255:

My hobbies include making costumes and caring for my pets. My family has 3 cats, and I have 3 rats and a ball python. No, I don't let the python near the rats! :biggrin_25517:

So hi everyone! I just wanted to pop in here and make a "hello" thread to introduce myself.

Welcome. Explore all the options that will come before you in the next few years. Enjoy life ... within reason. NO tickets and NO drug/alcohol offenses and a desire to roam and you'll be welcomed into trucking if that's still a desire of yours then. Perhaps you could get some sort of entry level office position at a local trucking office or terminal in the mean time to get an office insider's POV. Begin work on establishing credit if you haven't already and take care of it like your life depended on it.

Hi- I sent you a friend request and a message.

If you want to be a trucker all I have to say if GO FOR IT! You only live once..
Better to have tried than to be at the end of your life and wonder "what if I had".

    Thanks for the welcome, everyone!

I'm not one for drugs or booze. I've seen too many bad things involving those, and I know they're definitely stuff to stay away from. I plan on being a law-abiding citizen, I'm sure it's hard to get a job if you're not! Thanks for the advice.

Did you just get all YOLO about trucking? :biggrin_2559: But yeah, that's good advice. I would much rather give it a shot and see if I like it instead of going and doing something I won't like.

Well have to kind of agree! Started in trucking, went in the Army recieved 2 college degrees while there, got out of the army and went back to trucking. Its the only place where im trully happy, my heart belongs to the road! The only other jobs Ive ever had that make me truly happy was the Army and being a DAD! Now for the COLD HARD FACTS; it a hard life, long hours no social life to speak of work in all weather ie cold hot wet dry holidays away from home. I wouldnt trade this job, i love it have met some great people out here seen places youll never see from a plane and still even manage to have some fun every now and then.
THE IMPORTANT THING IS FOLLOW YOUR HEART! think about it try it while your young and if you dont like it get out while you still can.
    GOOD LUCK ON YOUR CHOICES
