The dpf has ECM programming. It would not be easy to turn the sensors on and off each time you have to deal with cali. You'd be further ahead to just avoid the state altogether.
CARB compliant...

"Any person who violates section 203(a)(2) shall be subject to a civil penalty of not more than $25,000 per day of violation."
How do you modify DPF without being in violation of 203 if USDOT and most states say you cant modify or render inoperable any emissions component? Making a "bypass" would be a modification in California and actually bypassing it would be "rendering inoperable" when its bypassed.
I know you back yard mechanics are going to regret these modifications when states realize how much money they can make by writing tickets for this. $25,000 is a pretty good payday for your local sheriff. -
BTW, I hear a lot of you saying "avoid California" . How does someone who lives in Californai (as 37 million people do) or lives in Arizona or Nevada "avoid California"? How do you avoid buying trucks that have these California add ons? Maybe calling your congressman or senator would do more good than running away in retreat. Anyone remember when Americans went headlong into battles instead of "avoiding" them?

Why not setup transfer warehouses just inside bordering state lines? Not sure if it is being done already, but would make sense to me. Lots of people won't go into CA anymore. Kind of like what we do sometimes with produce going into Canada - a US truck comes to Detroit area, CDN truck meets it at a crossdock facility, and then we bring it into Canada. I can see the same thing happening with cali.
-
There are other dates that affect O/O with less than 3 trucks. The dates vary by truck engine model year
-
We will be doing battle by not participating in California's crappy laws that they pass. If ALL truckers just stayed away from California and they started seeing their produce rot on the dock and their ports overflowing with containers, well then, they might just re-think their stupidity!
-
The container ships would be diverted to another port or hauled out of state on rail. Yes the containers would have to be hauled from the dock to the rail head. The alameda corridor would also se an increase in use.
The people in Sacramento are out of touch with reality. They do not realize that all of the stuff that they buy and take home in their preius was hauled to the store in a truck. -
There is a lot of false information being provided.
Reality is, the compliance dates are real and IT WILL HAPPEN! They did it in ports, off-road farm equipment and they are now after OTR Trucks.
First of all, if you have an 07 truck or newer- you have nothing to worry about till 2023 and then you will be required to update to an 2010 engine with DEF.
Retro Fits are available at almost every dealership you walk into. I have yet to see an exhaust update for only 3k as someone stated above. If you have any info where I can get a gov certified exhaust for 3k, please do share!
I have an 04 and run into CA 3 times a month and I am in the same delliema to wether to hold out till the end or get an 07 or newer while the prices are still down.
DEF is not required to be CARB Compliant. But that will be the requirement after 2023. -
It will be interesting to see how they enforce or postpone the January 2013 rule for all older 53' van trailers to have fairings and be on the specified tires. How they handle that may give us a better idea what will happen with the 2014 tractor rules.
-
What I got after reading over and over and over and over the carb sheet, is that the engine has to be model year 2007. what that means is that an 08 model year truck will have an 07 year engine.
Thats just the way I understood it anyways.
