I suspect they have some way of writing it off as a tax deduction. It sure would be nice if they would throw a bone to those of us who took the initiative to move here.

new class 1 driver here, and also new to the forums. Looking to get into the oil industry in Alberta or northern BC. Ive been applying at many of the companies listed in this thread all weekend. Theres alot of good info in here, I just wanted to say thanks for that.

Already have my H2S, CSTS, Standard first aid level 1, and level C CPR, WHMIS, and Confined spaces entry and pre-entry from my previous career (telecom tech). During this time of year would I still benefit if I were to go out there, and show up to the door of these companies as others have done? Or have things changed in the last year or so with regards to recruitment practices?.

    Thanks in advance.

Always best to apply in person, these companies get so many resumes from people who are thinking of making the move they all look the same

I don't understand why nobody is relocating to the real oilpatch in Southern Saskatchewan, nat gas prices are really low and are expected to stay that way for a very long time. Bakken oil is where the money and jobs are. Do your research people.

The "real oilpatch"? Sure. Do a little research on the location of Canada's reserves and get back to us. There's a reason the overwhelming majority of O&G companies and service companies bases are located in Alberta...

and it isn't just oil sands or natural gas.

Of course they're busy, I would never suggest otherwise. To imply that because natural gas prices are low that people shouldn't seek employment in Alberta and BC shows a stunning lack of knowledge of the industry. Look at rig counts and money being spent.
