That's why it is called negotiation. You call and give them the rate that you will work for. They can either accept or decline.
Otherwise, you bounce to an area that will get you moving again for money that will make the bills, and a little extra.

 

You won't, but somebody else will. As long as there are cheap haulers, there will be cheap freight. And PA is the cheapest state, filled with the cheapest buggers, in the whole country. I know this from having lived most of my misbegotten life in this hellhole....

 

Why I dropped everything off my cab card up that way. What kind of rate did you get going in, hopefully not less than $3 a mile from Midwest or southeast? That makes $1.20 out palatable but still no fun. Last time I got stuck up that way was the last time I will ever go there. Ended up doing 200 mile shorthauls that were still agonizingly cheap then ultimately said to hell with it and deadheaded 1,100 miles home. Have no desire to go back and try to figure those lanes out.

 

why not look in another area for something really good and take the 1.20 trash to get the good load? just my $.02

 

Because then the people hauling "the good load" can haul it for less. The same number of miles, the same amount of revenue, same average per mile, EXCEPT - that mentality will drive EVERYTHING down. It is the same scenario as if you were going from Denver to Detroit - Denver to Det load paid say $2500. Let's say there is a load in Kansas City, MO that also pays 2500, and also delivers to Detroit. Which one would you haul if you were in Denver today? These are not real numbers, just for use in an example.

 

We can blame it on the foreigners hauling cheap freight but from what I've seen, it's the mega carriers that are driving down the rates. I know here in the Western 11, the big guys will haul for under $1 a mile. They have such a high volume of freight going in, they have empties coming out. Their operating costs are so low (newbie drivers at $.24/mi. or less, fuel half the cost of the pump, new trucks cheaper than we pay used, etc.) that $.85 a mile can even be profitable in some cases.

The only thing that's going to help the spot market is freight supply. Until the economy is hurting for trucks to move the excess freight, I wouldn't expect the spot market to show much improvement.

 

there is no rate out of nogales right now! im stuck there right now! can anybody help me get out and go back EAST! like MI or NJ east! there paying 4500$ from nogales to Newark! i didnt take it because it is so low!

 

$4500/2500mi = 1.80

Maybe you should have taken it. Produce evidently isn't in full swing in Nogales yet. This is part of the learning process.

Have you tried calling CHR, TQL, Coyote, asking them what they have leaving Nogales going East? They will do that over the phone.
